Shubin Interstellar is a StarCitizen:human StarCitizen:mining and StarCitizen:terraforming corporation headquartered in StarCitizen:New Babbage on microTech in the StarCitizen:Stanton system. Founded as an investment group, it acquired the terraforming conglomerate StarCitizen:Worldmaker in the late 25th century SEY and the mining concern StarCitizen:Fulcrum Mining Associates in the mid-26th. It sells mining equipment and operates mining facilities, factories, support pipelines, and other industrial centers in nearly every planetary system held by the StarCitizen:United Empire of Earth (UEE). Its current CEO is StarCitizen:Gavin Arlington.<ref name="galactapedia">Template:Cite RSI</ref><ref name="ReferenceA">Template:Cite RSI</ref>
History
Economic historian Dr. StarCitizen:Edward Nogel dubbed Shubin Interstellar the Hidden Empire. It has become one of the most expansive companies in UEE history, with profits and an employee base to rival those of an entire star system. Although most people know the company by name, much of its business takes place in the most remote parts of space, so few are aware of how large a corporate entity it is.<ref name="portfolio">Template:Cite RSI</ref>
Shubin Interstellar was founded in SEY 2410 by a group of investors led by StarCitizen:Martha Shubin, whose company, Alanko Northal Consolidated Construction, had profited greatly during the terraforming boom of the first decades of the Human Colonial Expansion Era. Seeking to further capitalize on the settlement of new worlds, the group provided capital and credit lines to a variety of terraforming concerns and saw large returns on its investments. By 2480, Shubin Interstellar had acquired a controlling interest in StarCitizen:Worldmaker, then the third largest terraforming conglomerate in the StarCitizen:United Nations of Earth (UNE), and took on the terraforming process itself.<ref name="galactapedia" />
As Shubin Interstellar acquired more contracts, its overhead costs rose quickly. Once a terraforming process was complete, the equipment built up in a system had to be sold, often at a considerable loss. In 2554, StarCitizen:Fulcrum Mining Associates, a growing mining concern, approached Shubin Interstellar to purchase standing corporate assets in the StarCitizen:Centauri system as part of a development project there. Shubin Interstellar instead purchased Fulcrum outright, beginning a three-decade effort to retrofit its terraforming operations toward a mining focus. The company split into two divisions, one specializing in planetary engineering and the other in mining. By the 27th century, mining made up 60 percent of Shubin Interstellar's net worth.<ref name="galactapedia" />
Although Shubin Interstellar continues to invest in terraforming projects, mining remains its primary focus, and Shubin mining stations can be found throughout the galaxy. The company keeps as much of the mining process in-house as possible, manufacturing its own mining stations, mining equipment, and crew training facilities, and has even begun to oversee agricultural efforts to supply its workers with food. The company reuses its equipment and facilities whenever possible to cut costs, though larger bases are sometimes abandoned when they cannot be moved. Under current CEO StarCitizen:Gavin Arlington, corporate headquarters were relocated to microTech, and the company transitioned from hiring permanent workers to employing external contractors.<ref name="galactapedia" />
