Dragonwilds:Vault Guardians
More actions
Vault Guardians are powerful constructs created by the Dragonkin scientist Dragonwilds:Lacrussa. They serve as defenders and protectors of the ancient Dragonwilds:Dragonkin Vaults scattered throughout Dragonwilds:Ashenfall.
Origins
Vault Guardians were one of Lacrussa's proudest achievements. She discovered that rune essence, when properly prepared and refined into a powder, could be inscribed across stone and metal to create complex magical effects. This technology allowed for the creation of these powerful constructs, which she considered "reflections of living beings."Template:CiteJournal
Nature and abilities
In the beginning of creating the vault guardians, they were first slow and weak, but powerful enough for most mortals who entered the vaults. Over time, layers of anima would surround their bodies, making them more powerful to kill anyone who dared to enter their vault. This is through the alchemically modified Dragonwilds:anima-infused Dragonwilds:rune essence, which would get absorbed to strengthen the vault guardians over a long period.Template:CiteJournal
Their construction also includes shards of refined rune essence manipulated by Dragonkin alchemy. Tiny veins run through these shards in specific patterns, allowing precise control of anima flow. This technology enables the Vault Guardians to move, sense, and attack. During the dragon rebellion, Lacrussa regretted that she could not send the guardians beyond the magical enchantments of the vaults. The magic that animated them only worked within those walls, making them ineffective against the dragons that did not need Dragonkin secrets.Template:CiteJournal
Sentience debate
According to the Dragonwilds:player's journal, Dragonwilds:Avisk and Lacrussa have always disagreed over whether the vault guardians have souls. Avisk believes the guardians' "spark of creativity" may suggest that they may be more than just tools. However, Lacrussa views the guardians otherwise, despite Avisk studying years of research to change her mind.Template:CiteJournal
