Jacek Wołkowicz<ref name="linkedin">https://www.linkedin.com/in/gnembonne/</ref><ref>https://sztokholm.orpeg.pl/2022/12/09/nasz-gosc-pan-jacek-wolkowicz/</ref><ref group=note>Pronunciation: [1].</ref> better known as Gnembon, is a software engineer<ref name="credits">https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/credits</ref> at Minecraft:Mojang Studios and a Minecraft modder. He created the Carpet Mod, which "allows you to take full control of what matters from a technical perspective of the game."

Gnembon has a YouTube channel where he used to upload item farming and modding videos. Since joining Mojang however, he has ceased to upload videos to his YouTube channel,<ref name="mojang">Template:Ytl</ref> as he thinks it's unfair to make videos about farms with insider knowledge.<ref>Template:Ytl</ref>

Biography

Wołkowicz attended the Template:W from 2002 to 2007 where he got a M.Sc. in Computer Science.<ref name="linkedin"/> He then attended Template:W from 2007 to 2013 and received a Ph.D. in Computer Science.<ref name="linkedin"/>

After graduating, he joined LeadSift as a Research Engineer in 2013, and then as the Director of Research until 2017. He then worked as the Director of Research at Template:W from 2017 to 2021.<ref>Template:Ytl</ref> During this time, he also worked part-time as an Adjunct Professor and Sessional Instructor at Dalhousie.<ref name="linkedin"/> In November 2021, he moved to Sweden and joined Mojang.<ref name="mojang"/>

Wołkowicz is capable of coding in both Java and Template:W engines. He also knows the Python programming language.

Work on Minecraft

Before Gnembon joined Mojang, he was an active member of the technical Minecraft server SciCraft. He presented at Minecraft:MINECON Live 2019 with some SciCraft members on a community panel after the show, about the benefits of redstone automation as a form of Minecraft gameplay.<ref>Template:Ytl</ref>

After he joined Mojang, Gnembon worked together with Minecraft:Kingbdogz to add the Minecraft:sculk catalyst.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref> He also worked on the Minecraft:armor trims,<ref>Template:Tweet</ref><ref>Template:Ytl</ref> Minecraft:camels,<ref>Template:Tweet</ref> and suggested the addition of Minecraft:explorer maps to other villages.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref><ref>Template:Ytl</ref> He worked on adding the Minecraft:crafter<ref>Template:Tweet</ref> and the Template:Cmd command, both of which were originally features from his mod Carpet Mod.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref>

Gnembon has worked on several Minecraft:game drops, particularly Minecraft:Armored Paws and Minecraft:The Garden Awakens,<ref>Template:Ytl</ref> as well as the Minecraft:Poisonous Potato Update.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref> He also implemented Minecraft:netherite horse armor.Template:Cn

Trivia

  • Wołkowicz's nickname was taken from a character in a book he was reading for school,<ref>Template:Ytl</ref> which is most likely Gnębon Puczymorda from Szewcy by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz. It was first used as his username in the video game Template:W II or III. He later decided to keep this name for his YouTube channel, as a way of separating his gaming life from his personal life.<ref>Template:Ytl</ref>
  • When Wołkowicz first started playing Minecraft, he was afraid of Minecraft:squid for several months.<ref name=":0">Template:Ytl</ref>
  • Wołkowicz has a son, who he taught to use a mouse and keyboard by playing Minecraft.<ref>Template:Ytl</ref>
  • Gnembon thinks that villager Minecraft:trading needs to be redesigned from scratch, in the form of quest-like discoveries that encourage exploration and progression.<ref>Template:Ytl</ref>
