StarCitizen:Bengal
More actions
The Bengal is a fleet carrier spacecraft manufactured by StarCitizen:Roberts Space Industries (RSI) for the StarCitizen:United Empire of Earth Navy (UEEN). Bengal-class carriers carry multiple squadrons of fighters, bombers and support craft, and typically form the nucleus of a UEEN battle fleet or task force group.<ref name="galactapedia">Template:Cite RSI</ref> Their massive armaments and extremely heavy shielding make it nearly impossible for any individual craft to threaten them.<ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref> It is 990 meters in length.<ref>Star Citizen: The Scale of Things to Come on YouTube</ref>

Acquisition
At CitizenCon 2954, it was revealed that player orgs would be able to construct the Bengal using the StarCitizen:DryDock module on StarCitizen:player space stations.<ref name="citcon2024">Template:Cite RSI</ref> Derelict wrecks might also be found, which will need significant efforts to repair.<ref>"The idea is that we've seeded a couple of them out there in the universe, rendered derelict by a Vanduul (or other) attack. Players can go out there, find them and fix them up. It's basically a conceit to get around the idea that the UEE would never actually let someone have such a ship.", Ask our Community Manager: Ben Lesnick, May 10, 2013
</ref> They will be persistent and will not despawn, thus needing constant crewing attention so as not to be boarded and stolen by others.<ref>10 for the Chairman: Episode 53 (2015.02.16), Star Citizen, Youtube, 17 February 2015</ref>
Development
The initial concept of Bengal is designed by StarCitizen:Ryan Church (Freelance Conceptist) in 2013, and then handed off to a crew of artists (including StarCitizen:Sergio Rosas) at StarCitizen:CGBot.<ref name="jp1">StarCitizen:Ryan Church, StarCitizen:Sergio Rosas, StarCitizen:David Ladyman and StarCitizen:Ben Lesnick, Work in Progress: Bengal Carrier, Jump Point, vol. 1, no. 2, pp. 3, 2013-02.</ref> Throughout the coming years, it was only ever displayed in certain promotion videos or development updates. In one particular case, an episode of StarCitizen:Around The Verse was used to display development progress on the ship, showing several interior shots such as ship hangars and flight decks.<ref name="shipshape" /> Throughout time, it has been worked on mostly behind the scenes. The ship was featured in several StarCitizen:Squadron 42 teasers or trailers, confirming that it would need to be developed for an appearance in that game.

| Description | The Bengal-class is the UEE's “tip of the sword.” The iconic Bengal is the most powerful warship available to the UEE Navy and its imposing presence has held off raiders and the Vanduul throughout the outer colonies, allowing humanity to spread unchallenged. Bengals carry multiple squadrons of fighters, bombers and support craft. Their massive armaments and extremely heavy shielding make it nearly impossible for any individual craft to threaten them. Only a combined effort could ever hope to destroy or capture one. |

- In internal playtesting, players got frustrated traversing the ship. Elevators and a subdeck monorail were added as a solution. It runs from one side of the flight deck to the other. It can be used to transport cargo and personnel.<ref>Squadron 42: Around the Verse - Flight Intelligence on YouTube</ref>
