StarCitizen:Ship Upgrades

Ship Upgrades, also known as Cross Chassis Upgrades (CCUs) is a system of IRL upgrading from one ship to another that allows to change a bought ship into another ship<ref>Hub Crawl Hero - Fireside Chat with Carl Jones - Cloud Imperium Games, YouTube, 23 May 2023</ref> that costs at least as much while preserving all limited items, access passes and insurance levels. Ship upgrades can be applied to ship packages and standalone ships.<ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref>

Besides merely upgrading just from one ship to another, more importantly this also allows to progressively upgrade along a chain of ever larger ships, cumulating small discounts each time, and resulting in a noticable final discount.

In order to save money, the principle is to buy an initial ship discounted during a StarCitizen:warbond, upgrade to another ship on warbond etc etc. This process can take thus take time and planning in order to maximize gains.

History

In the past a very complicated system of upgrades was maintained. It allowed only for upgrades between selected ships and created upgrade paths that resulted in different prices. It was changed in 2015.<ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref><ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref>
