Minecraft:Java Edition 16w40a

16w40a is the tenth Minecraft:snapshot for Minecraft:Java Edition 1.11, released on October 6, 2016<ref name=blogpost_16w40a>Template:Mojangsnap</ref> to fix some bugs from Minecraft:16w39c.

Changes

Minecraft:Vindicators

• "Johnny" vindicators are now also created by setting a new byte tag, Johnny, to true, in addition to renaming the vindicator to Johnny. The tag supersedes the name, so a Johnny tag set to 1b allows arbitrary names with the "Johnny" behavior, or a Johnny tag set to 0b allows the name Johnny without the "Johnny" behavior.
• Their axe is now one of their HandItems, whereas before it was purely a visual effect. This means their attack now disables shields.
• Vindicators have been heavily buffed - their attack damage on Easy has been increased from Template:Hp to Template:Hp, on Normal Template:Hp to Template:Hp, and on Hard Template:Hp to Template:Hp.

Projectiles

• Tags xTile, yTile, zTile, inTile and inGround were removed.
• The life tag is no longer used for anything, but still saved/read.
• This affects Minecraft:ghast fireballs, Minecraft:blaze fireballs, Minecraft:fire charges, Minecraft:dragon fireballs and wither skulls.

• Now uses a screen-fixed Minecraft:starfield, much like end gateways, unlike the position-dependent starfield used earlier.

Trivia

• The image used for the blog post for this snapshot<ref name=blogpost_16w40a/> shows 2 Minecraft characters in Minecraft:shulker boxes. These are Minecraft:Mojang Studios game developers Erik "Grum" Broes and Minecraft:Maria Lemón.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref>
• 16w40a was previously removed from the Minecraft:launcher for some time, but was added back in September 2018.
