In most societies, the strongest emerge either from training, or natural advantage of birth. For the KotHaar, the strongest are made to be the strongest and to stand as defender for the rest of the community.
There is no jealousy over this role. No ambition among the KotHaar to strive to be stronger, faster, better. They know their place and they know that all other members of their society work together to achieve a perfect, harmonious, goal.
Or, they did. | |||
It was, ironically, the KotHaar-Kal who first fell to Fuzan’s corruption. The dragon saw them and admired the battle prowess and studied them carefully over many days. He saw the way the fire danced within them, like blood vessels… or, in his mind, like strings. Using the mastery over fire that his mother had gifted him, Fuzan seized control of those strings and made the KotHaar-Kal dance to his tune.
With such powerful soldiers under his command, it was a small thing to overpower the other KotHaar and force them into his service as well. The other KotHaar were confused at the seeming betrayal of the Kal, but could not comprehend that they might be acting in a way other than their purpose, so they marched toward Fuzan’s embrace without ever stopping to wonder why.
