Respiration is an Minecraft:enchantment applied to Minecraft:helmets that extends how long it is possible to stay underwater without drowning.
Obtaining
Respiration can be obtained from Minecraft:enchanting tables, drops from mobs that have spawned in a Minecraft:raid,Template:Only books obtained by Minecraft:fishing, Minecraft:monster room chests, librarian Minecraft:villagers (or if the "Minecraft:Villager Trade Rebalance" experimental datapack is enabled, a swamp librarian), and non-village Minecraft:structure loot.
Usage
Respiration increases the Minecraft:oxygen bonus Minecraft:attribute (which is 0 by default) by 1 per enchantment level. Every Minecraft:tick, while underwater, the air supply of a player or Minecraft:mob that can drown in water decreases by 1. Wearing a helmet enchanted with Respiration gives a chance for the air supply to not be decreased. The aforementioned chance depends on the enchantment's level, as seen in the following formula: Template:Cd. As such, to fully deplete a player's air supply it takes 16 seconds without the Respiration enchantment, 32 seconds (on average) with Respiration I, 48 seconds (on average) with Respiration II, and 64 seconds (on average) with Respiration III. Wearing a Minecraft:turtle shell extends this time by an additional 10 seconds due to the Water Breathing effect.
Since the air supply is increased by 20 every time drowning damage is dealt, the Respiration enchantment also allows to take less drowning damage over the same time period.
Respiration can be applied to non-helmet items by the use of commands.
