Beginning in 1985, ''Back to the Future'' is a film trilogy revolving around teenager {{Wikipedia|Marty McFly}} and eccentric scientist {{Wikipedia|Emmett Brown|Emmett "Doc" Brown}} traveling through time using a {{Wikipedia|DeLorean time machine|DeLorean}}. The series ended with ''{{Wikipedia|Back to the Future Part III}}'', which saw Doc stranded in 1885.
Following the conclusion of the film trilogy, the franchise's co-creator {{w|Bob Gale}} remained firm on there never being a fourth installment. In response to the series' continued popularity, a {{w|Back to the Future: The Ride|simulator ride}} based off it was released in 1991. This ride continued the story of the films, with Doc having revealed time travel to the world and founded the [https://backtothefuture.fandom.com/wiki/Institute_of_Future_Technology Institute of Future Technology] to continue his research. Although influental on many future installments of the franchise, waning popularity led to the ride's closure, first in 2007 followed by a complete shutdown in 2016.

[[File:Shrek the Third.jpg|left|thumb|Shrek as he appears in the third installment of his franchise, ''{{Wikipedia|Shrek the Third}}''.]]
Loosely based on a {{w|Shrek!|children's book}} written by cartoonist {{w|William Steig}}, ''Shrek'' is a series of animated comedy films telling the story of an ogre named {{Wikipedia|Shrek (character)|Shrek}}. The series is known for its mature, crass sense of humor, often making pop culture references or deconstructing familiar tropes, the original film being credited to the popularity of the {{Wikipedia|Fairy tale parody|fractured fairy tale}} genre in the 2000s. Due to the franchise’s popularity, Shrek is often considered to be the mascot of Dreamworks.
Throughout the series, many popular characters have been introduced, typically portrayed by celebrity actors. The title character was a vehicle for comedian {{Wikipedia|Mike Myers}}, while introduced in the original film were {{Wikipedia|Donkey (Shrek)|Donkey}}, a wise cracking talking donkey voiced by {{Wikipedia|Eddie Murphy}}, and {{Wikipedia|Princess Fiona}}, a princess cursed to become an ogre who becomes Shrek's love interest, voiced by {{Wikipedia|Cameron Diaz}}. In the {{Wikipedia|Shrek 2|second film}}, the character {{Wikipedia|Puss in Boots (Shrek)|Puss in Boots}} was introduced, voiced by {{Wikipedia|Antonio Banderas}}, who would go on to become the protagonist of his own film franchise.
