The vault starts off locked, and must be unlocked by interacting with 4 dragonkin statues located in Ashien's Watch. The vault is also involved in the Dragonwilds:Granite Mauled Dragonwilds:quest, where the player must retrieve a dwarfish blueprint for the Dragonwilds:granite maul from the vault and bring it to Dragonwilds:Doric. It is recommended to bring a form of antipoison (cooked food with poison resistance and/or Dragonwilds:weak antipoison potions).
