Although the name may be sinister, the robes and the people who wear them are not automatically evil.

Brynmoor had a string of so-called “dark wizards.” Most were little more than bandits with a penchant for magic. The guards were enough to deal with most troublemakers, but a small group of them caused real trouble. They were members of the “Children of Shadows”, a Zamorakian cult that began to spread through the population. The cult fed on distrust, paranoia and greed, some very human traits. Among this number were three apprentices of the wizard’s guild, who were frustrated that they were not given the promotions they felt they deserved.

In their quest for power, the ‘Children of Shadows’ stumbled upon ancient vaults, repositories of the dragonkin’s long-forgotten secrets. Here, they discovered the remnants of a forbidden text, a relic of immense power. Driven by their arrogance, they chose to follow its instructions, unaware of the horrors they were about to unleash.
Callius Waithe created an army of the undead and marched them on Emberwood. Or, rather, he called his shambling little horde an army, even though it consisted only of five skeletons in various degrees of disrepair.

The village guard took aim at the skeletons, but their arrows lacked the strength to shatter bone, and Callius marched them through the gates with barely any opposition. Still, once he had made it through, he was not met with the terror he had hoped for. While shambling skeletons were certainly a fright that caused much shock, their limited number helped mitigate the terror.

A small child even giggled and tried to offer one skeleton an apple. An act that filled Callius with unreasonable rage.
