The StarCitizen:Vanduul Scythe (UEE designation) is a medium fighter that appears in every Vanduul raid. There is not a single allowance for comfort, cargo or anything that would dilute the ship's function as a dedicated dogfighter. Featuring a hefty weapons payload, the Scythe's real asset is its maneuverability, found in the twin main and twelve maneuvering thrusters.<ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref><ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref>

Development

The Scythe was originally designed by StarCitizen:Jim Martin as the Dralthi from Wing Commander for what became the StarCitizen:Star Citizen pitch.<ref>"The Scythe was originally designed by the great Jim Martin as the Dralthi for what became the Star Citizen pitch.[...]", @banditloaf.wcnews.com‬, Blueksy, April 29, 2025</ref> It was first revealed in the StarCitizen:Squadron 42 cinematic trailer in StarCitizen:Kickstarter campaign in October 2012, making it the first StarCitizen:Vanduul ship in StarCitizen:Star Citizen.<ref name="sq422012">Squadron 42 - Full Cinematic Trailer on YouTube</ref>

The Scythe was implemented in game as NPC enemies in StarCitizen:Arena Commander, and was later added to the game as a [[StarCitizen::Category:Flight ready|flyable ship]] as a captured model.<ref name="commlink14773">Template:Cite RSI</ref>

It was first redesigned in 2014 with physically based rendering technique.<ref name="pbrupdate">Template:Cite RSI</ref><ref name="wipold">Template:Cite RSI</ref> The Scythe along with the rest of the Vanduul fleet were then redesigned in 2019 using the design styles of the updated StarCitizen:Kingship interior.<ref name="isc2020-06-18">Inside Star Citizen: Enemy Mine - Spring 2020 on YouTube</ref>

StarCitizen:Chris Roberts kept calling the Scythe the Dralthi from Wing Commander for years.
