Template:RedirectTemplate:Scope
Template:Relevant tutorial Skyblock is a community created Template:MC game mode, revolving around constructing a world from minimal resources, typically starting off with an island, a Minecraft:chest, and a single Minecraft:tree.
Gameplay
In typical skyblock, the player spawns on a small floating island made of dirt and grass, which contains only a tree for the player to use for Minecraft:wood and a chest containing at least the resources for a Minecraft:cobblestone generator (Minecraft:water/Minecraft:ice and Minecraft:lava), and some seeds to grow food. The challenge is to either sustain oneself using these resources, or, in some variants of the game mode, to venture out onto further islands that may contain the resources necessary to enter Minecraft:the Nether and Minecraft:the End to properly complete the game.
Background
The game mode was created by Minecraft:Minecraft Forum member Noobcrew.<ref>Template:Citation</ref> It has gone on to become a prolific genre of content with Minecraft:YouTubers such as Minecraft:CaptainSparklez and Minecraft:Technoblade,<ref>Template:YouTube link</ref><ref>Template:YouTube link</ref> with many different iterations being created by fans. Although unofficial to Minecraft:Mojang Studios, several Skyblock maps and add-ons have also been released through Minecraft:Realms,<ref>Template:Mcnet</ref><ref>Template:Mcnet</ref><ref>Template:Mcnet</ref><ref>Template:Mcnet</ref> and Minecraft:Marketplace Pass.<ref>Template:Mcnet</ref><ref>Template:Mcnet</ref><ref>Template:Mcnet</ref> They are a frequent genre on the Minecraft:Marketplace platform, one such map even being considered a fan favorite and promoted during the fifth anniversary.<ref>Template:Mcnet</ref>
In the Minecraft franchise
Maps
As a promotion to various Minecraft:MINECON events, the skyblock map Minecraft:Abstraction: Minecon Earth was released by Minecraft:Jigarbov Productions. The world revolves around a skyblock challenge set on various cubic globes representing various biomes, referencing the logo for Minecraft:MINECON Earth 2018.
Content bundles
Template:Main Released in 2020, the Skyblock Pack is a content bundle of Minecraft:Marketplace releases. Included in the bundle are the worlds Original Skyblock, Infinity Skyblock, Skyblock HD Skin Pack, the Minecraft:character creator item SkyBlock Cloud Hoodie, and the Elytra Minecraft:emote.<ref>https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/minecraft-skyblock-pack/9n3l88b5pt8s</ref> This pack was promoted during the Start a New Minecraft Story campaign,<ref>Template:Mcnet</ref> appearing in its trailer.
Skyblock content would also go on to be featured in bundles not themed to it specifically. In 2022, Advanced Skyblock Mashup was featured in the Dragon’s Pack.<ref>https://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/store/dragons-pack/9n3cbx6ml9sm</ref><ref>Template:Mcnet</ref> In 2023, Custom Hearts Skyblock was featured in the Minecraft:Hearts Pack.<ref>https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/hearts-pack/9N3FK2BT5KXQ</ref>
Allusions
Template:More images Within several pieces of media, Skyblock has served as a source of inspiration.<ref>Template:Tumblr</ref> In the Template:MCSM episode Template:Story Mode episode, a parallel Template:MCSM serves as an in-universe interpretation of the minigame, Template:MCSM being constructed using limited materials across from a floating island. The asset filenames for generic Sky City citizens contain the term "Skyblock".<ref>Template:Cd</ref>
An April Fools' snapshot 20w14∞ included a dimension similar to Skyblock called "content".
