Drinks, or beverages, are consumables that the StarCitizen:player drinks to restore thirst (Hydration).<ref name="ig480">Template:Cite game</ref> Most commercially available drinks carry a StarCitizen:Hydration Efficacy Index (HEI); the higher the score, the longer the beverage keeps the player hydrated. Substances such as caffeine and alcohol can lower a drink's HEI, while standard filtered water has a baseline score of 80.<ref name="journal-nutrition">Template:Cite game</ref>
Drinks are consumed from the player's inventory and can be taken in small sips or in one continuous drink until the container is empty; the player must remove their StarCitizen:helmet first. See StarCitizen:Hunger and thirst for the underlying survival mechanic. Many drinks also carry one or more [[StarCitizen::Category:Dietary effects|dietary effects]], such as StarCitizen:Energizing or StarCitizen:Cognitive impairing, that modify the player's condition beyond simple hydration.
