Minecraft:Mud

Mud is a block found abundantly in Minecraft:mangrove swamps or created by using a Minecraft:water bottle on any type of Minecraft:dirt block. It can be used for Minecraft:crafting or converted into Minecraft:clay using Minecraft:pointed dripstone.

Obtaining

Breaking

Mud can be broken by hand and by any Minecraft:tool, but using a Minecraft:shovel speeds up the process. Template:Breaking row

Natural generation

Mud generates in the Minecraft:mangrove swamp biome. Mud can also generate in Minecraft:trail ruins and in some entrance rooms of Minecraft:trial chambers.

Mob loot

An Minecraft:enderman holding a mud block drops the block upon death.

Post-generation

Template:Control a Minecraft:water bottle, Minecraft:splash water bottle, or Minecraft:lingering water bottle on a block of Minecraft:dirt, Minecraft:coarse dirt, or Minecraft:rooted dirtTemplate:Note, will convert them into mud and return a Minecraft:glass bottle.

Triggering a Minecraft:dispenser filled with a water bottle on these blocks will also convert them into mud.

To turn dirt into mud, the water bottle cannot be used on the bottom face of the block.<ref>Template:Bug</ref> However, a dispenser can still be used even if it is used on the bottom face.

Usage

Template:See also Mud is not a full block, and as such, it has some unique properties; Minecraft:entities standing on mud sink slightly into it, similar to Minecraft:soul sand. Unlike soul sand, however, mud does not slow the movement speed of mobs or players that walk on it. Falling blocks such as Minecraft:sand also drop as an item when landing on it, and a Minecraft:hopper that is under a mud block can collect items dropped on top of it.

Items on top of mud move alongside it when it is pushed by a Minecraft:piston.

Conversion

Clay

Placing Minecraft:mud above a block with a Minecraft:pointed dripstone hanging underneath the mud gives it a Template:Frac (about 17.6%) chance per Minecraft:random tick to convert into Minecraft:clay, with an average conversion time of 388.4 seconds. Mud does not convert in Minecraft:the NetherTemplate:Note.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>

Moss

Template:IN, using Minecraft:bone meal on a Minecraft:moss block or Minecraft:pale moss block with air above it converts the topmost mud blocks within a 7×11×7 area around it into moss blocks or pale moss blocks.

Dirt

Growing an Minecraft:azalea tree on top of mud or muddy mangrove roots, converts the mud beneath it into Minecraft:rooted dirt, which can be Minecraft:hoed into Minecraft:dirt.

When a large Minecraft:spruce grows, it converts the mud beneath and around it into Minecraft:podzol.

Template:IN, when trees other than large spruce, azalea, Minecraft:mangrove, and Minecraft:fancy oak<ref>Template:Bug</ref> grow, the mud beneath them is converted into Minecraft:dirt.
