History
Cloud Imperium Services was created on 9th April 2012, predating the Star Citizen and Squadron 42 announcement in October 2012 by months. It's the earliest known mention of Cloud Imperium.
The use of an initial generic non descriptive name is relatively common for startups to avoid an early reveal.
It was renamed to Cloud Imperium Games, LLC, in March 2013.

Studio closure
