Little is known about the great necromancer, Abraxus, a fact he finds deeply frustrating. In his youth he sought secrets forbidden to others and he wandered the Whispering Swamps of Brynmoor in search of secrets that others dared not know. The swamp was ancient and haunted, so the legends went, and there was a magic to it that was different to any other part of Ashenfall. He explored vaults, caves and battled goblins in the mists, but never found the power that his youth demanded. Until one day, he found the smoke that promised him the power he so desperately craved. | Little is known about the great necromancer, Abraxus, a fact he finds deeply frustrating.
From there his history is clouded, obscured just as the mist obscured the swamps. He founded a small order of necromancers in Fellhollow and took advantage of the chaos when the Withering began. He sought to bind the souls of the dead into his service, gaining power just as Imaru gained hers from the consumption of the fallen.
But Abraxus was no dragon, and so frustratingly mortal. A single hoplite spear is all it took to end his life, he would have been embarrassed if he felt it had mattered. As a spirit he lost a lot of things we take for granted, sensation, corporeality, and many of the emotions that everyone else enjoys. Yet, in exchange, he was given the most precious gift of all – time. Time to contemplate. Time to scheme. Time to think about what really matters, in the grand scheme of it all, and he has found his answer.
His ring, imbued with his dark power, offers no value to him any more. So he bequeaths it to you. In time, perhaps, it may help you become a mage strong enough to earn his respect. Well, a small fraction of it, at least.
