StarCitizen:Thrusters are the essential defining component separating a StarCitizen:ship from a StarCitizen:space station.

They draw power from the StarCitizen:power plant to use with a likely mix of hydrogen and hydrogen fusion by-products from the power plant in order to generate thrust, allowing ships to move under their own power.

Thrusters used by many aerospace-craft can be collected into four groups:

  • The main thrusters providing the majority of the ship's sustainable thrust and almost all "forward" thrust.
  • The retro thrusters providing the majority of the ship's "braking" or "backward" thrust.
  • The maneuvering thrusters scattered across a vehicle and providing some translation control and the majority of attitude control using intermittent thrust.
  • The vertical take-off and landing thrusters that provide an aerospace-craft with sustainable thrust with which it can hover and launch vertically.
