Food items are consumables that the StarCitizen:player eats to restore hunger (Nutrition).<ref name="ig480">Template:Cite game</ref> Most commercially available food carries a StarCitizen:Nutritional Density Rating (NDR); the higher the score, the more nutritious the item.<ref name="journal-nutrition">Template:Cite game</ref>
Food is eaten from the player's inventory, usually in a single bite, and the player must remove their StarCitizen:helmet to do so; see StarCitizen:Hunger and thirst for the underlying survival mechanic. Many foods also carry one or more [[StarCitizen::Category:Dietary effects|dietary effects]], such as StarCitizen:Hypertrophic or StarCitizen:Dehydrating, that modify the player's condition beyond simple nutrition.
