12w42b is the fifteenth and final Minecraft:snapshot for Minecraft:Java Edition 1.4.2, released on October 18, 2012<ref>https://web.archive.org/web/20121022082301/http://www.mojang.com/2012/10/minecraft-snapshot-12w42b-preprerelease/</ref> to fix some of the bugs and crashes in the Minecraft:12w42a snapshot.

Mobs
- Added sounds.
- Added step sound.
- Added three new sound effects.
- Added sounds.
Gameplay
- Added a number of sound events, but the sound effects are not added yet.
Changes
Blocks
- Lock mechanism is now slightly more stable and predictable.
- Falling sand now properly "pops" when falling on non-solid blocks (such as Minecraft:torches).
General
- Server ping now tells if the server and client have mismatching protocol versions.
Translations
- Updated translation files.
Fixes
