Food & potions perks:

*Perks: Food perks do NOT stack. Eating another food after consuming a different one overrides its perk(s) with the most recent food eaten. Potions behave like this as well; drinking a new potion will immediately overwrite your active potion buff. While players cannot layer multiple foods or multiple potions, one potion + one food perks can be stacked together simultaneously.

General Advice

As players continuously chop down trees in the base game (leave the stumps alone!), they will start to accumulate tree seeds as drops. By collecting and planting these seeds back into the ground around existing wooded areas, players can actively expand the world's natural forests, making long-term resource gathering and XP farming much easier.

Trees

Ash and Oakwidth=71x71width=70x70

Because ash and oak trees have the lowest HP of all tree types, they remain a highly competitive source of experience over any given timeframe. This is especially true when backtracking to them using significantly higher-tier axes than the ones minimally required, as the massive damage output allows players to shred through them instantly for rapid, consistent experience. Furthermore, they are incredibly accessible as they are located pretty much everywhere across Dragonwilds:Ashenfall, with some exceptions.

Willow width=60x60

Fellhollow's Willow locations with Lodestones routes

Although willow trees are primarily located in dangerous areas, well-geared players can still effectively utilise them for training. Willows can be found all over the Dragonwilds:Fellhollow region, specifically clustered around the various ponds. Building Dragonwilds:lodestones in high-density willow areas is highly recommended, as it allows players to quickly teleport from one cluster to another, bypassing dangerous terrain and minimising downtime. Just like with earlier tiers, chopping willows becomes significantly faster and yields much better experience per any given timeframe once better axes are obtained. Players need to keep in mind that they're very likely to get attacked by Dragonwilds:nature spirits, Dragonwilds:zombies and Dragonwilds:skeletons while training on willow trees. Since there are only a few of them in every areas, it is recommended to plant the seeds acquired around the existing trees to expand the forests.

Maplewidth=60x60

File:Allowed Lodestones Areas Downdun Reach.png
Areas within Dowdun Reach that allow players to build and use Lodestones with Maple trees locations (yellow dots)

Maple trees become a viable source of experience once the Dragonwilds:Dowdun Reach region is unlocked and the player has acquired a Dragonwilds:mithril logging axe. Just like all trees, chopping maple trees becomes significantly faster after unlocking better logging axes. A large concentration of them can be found in The Courtyard; this specific area features very few hostile enemies, though players should still watch out for stray Chinchompas wandering into the area! Unlocking the Dragonwilds:nodestones as part of the main quest can make travelling there much easier. Note: Although players are prevented from building any Dragonwilds:lodestones around the main area (castle area), they can be built in some areas such as The Approach, The Menagerie, The Pastures and The Courtyard. Refer to the image on the right side. As of right now, maple trees almost have a guaranteed Dragonwilds:maple tree seed drop every time the player chop them; this can significantly help expand the forest all around The Courtyard (safest area).

Yew width=60x60

Yew trees become available once the Dragonwilds:Umbral Sands region is unlocked. While training on yews is not the fastest method for raw experience, it remains viable, especially for players looking for variety in their training. Large clusters of yews can be found scattered all across the desert area. When training here, players must manage the Scorching heat mechanic and seek out shadow when necessary. Additionally, combat readiness varies by spot: while some yew clusters are located dangerously close to hostile enemies, others offer more peaceful chopping zones.

Magicwidth=60x60

The last available tier of trees, Magic Trees, is available once the player gain access to the Dragonwilds:Scorned Wilderness raid. Magic trees offer the best experience-per-tree in the game as of right now, massively surpassing all previous tiers, granting about 1000 XP per tree. They possess a unique respawn mechanic, as they appear to fully grow back every 1 to 2 in-game days.

Methods

Tree Planting Method with Spellswidth=60x60

This method involves planting two or more parallel rows of around a dozen trees and casting Axtral Projection to fell them all simultaneously. Once the trees have fallen, cast Splinter from the centre of the trunk piles to break multiple trunks at once, resulting in a large XP drop.

While Splinter is on cooldown, alternate by casting Trunk Totem on the remaining trunk piles. This converts them into wooden totems, consolidating the logs into one to three choppable totems and reducing the time spent moving between trunks.

*Casting Splinter on wooden totems is not recommended for training purposes, as it significantly reduces the amount of experience gained compared to casting it directly on fallen trunks.

*Casting Splinter on felled wood trunks slightly reduces the XP, as the player will get the raw XP without the destroying XP bonuses. This strategy requires a significant amount of upfront preparation, as players must gather a large stockpile of tree seeds before starting, but it can result in a quick and massive experience gain if done right. This cycle can be repeated as many times as desired if multiple rows are prepared in advance, keeping in mind that trees take three days to fully respawn.

Data

Experience gain

Woodcutting experience is primarily awarded for dealing Woodcutting damage to a valid target. The skill's damage event has a base rate of 1 XP per point of damage dealt. Each chop also triggers a small action-specific XP event, and a further 3 XP is awarded when a tree is felled or a section of a fallen trunk is fully destroyed. As a result, a single XP drop may contain damage XP, chop XP and destruction XP.

Target Technique Additional XP per hit Completion XP
Standing tree Standard chop 0.10 3 XP when felled
Standing tree Overhead chop 0.01
Fallen trunk Standard chop 0.10 3 XP when the section is destroyed
Fallen trunk Overhead chop 0.15

These values explain why the standard chop is better suited to standing trees, whilst the overhead chop is more effective against fallen trunks. The exact XP gained per swing still depends mainly on the damage dealt. Some higher-tier trunks use smaller per-hit event values, but retain the same 3 XP destruction bonus.

Experience gained from trees

Experience gained from manually processing a tree is calculated from the damage dealt rather than directly from the number of swings. Standard chops against standing trees use an XP rate of 0.10 per point of damage. Fallen trunks use a separate rate based on the tree type, with overhead chops generally providing the highest rate.

A fully processed tree consists of the standing tree followed by seven destructible log stages: one whole trunk, two half-trunks and four quarter-trunks. Felling the tree and destroying each log stage also awards 3 XP, for a total completion bonus of 24 XP.

Tree Standing-tree XP Log XP Completion XP Base total
Ash tree 16 84 24 124
Oak tree 22 110.25 24 156.25
Willow tree 34 168 24 226
Maple tree 25 75.6 24 124.6
Yew tree 90 94.5 24 208.5
Magic tree 100 892.5 24 1,016.5

These values assume that the tree is felled using standard chops and that every section of the fallen trunk is processed using overhead chops. They exclude the stump, XP modifiers and spell-based processing. Displayed totals may differ slightly due to rounding. Template:Skill training guides
