Although the name may be sinister, the robes and the people who wear them are not automatically evil.

The most infamous dark wizards became a fairytale for the people of Brynmoor, a cautionary tale about greed and the desire for power. They sought power in the darkest of places, and it turned them into something monstrous.

They appeared in the village in the dead of night as twisted versions of themselves—mindless creatures infused with a shadowy essence. Those who found themselves in their path had their lives ripped out of them until nought but an empty husk remained.

It took all the visiting Wild Knights to take them down. Arrow after arrow, spell after spell, the task seemed almost insurmountable until the light of the sun made the creatures vulnerable. In their death throws, it was as if some horrible chill fell across the world as if a door somewhere had been opened into somewhere it shouldn’t.
Faced with humiliation of villagers not fleeing in terror, the necromancer Callius Waithe was forced to use more harrowing tactics. He grabbed a jar of oil from a nearby blacksmith and threw it over his skeletal minions, and then he set them aflame. For what could be more terrifying than the shambling dead? Why, the shambling burning dead, of course!

This did cause the panic he wanted. Villagers fled the flames quickly, running to the wells in case of the inevitably flaming spread. Spread it did, for while the skeletons themselves did not burn, the oil covering them erupted into excited tongues of flame. Callius laughed at his evil genius, until the flames spread beyond the means of his control.

It is said that on autumn evenings, when the moon is full, the ghost of Callius can be seen screaming in the village, running through the streets trying to put out spectral flames.
