Lapis lazuli is a mineral required to enchant items in an enchanting table. It is also a major source of blue dye.

Obtaining

Mining

When mined with a stone pickaxe or better, lapis lazuli ore or deepslate lapis lazuli ore drops 4–9 lapis lazuli. With the Fortune III enchantment, a single block has a chance of dropping up to 36 items. The ore is most common at y level -2.

Aside from villager gifts in Java Edition, trading is the only renewable way to obtain lapis lazuli.

Template:IN, cleric Minecraft:villagers give players lapis lazuli if they have the Hero of the Village effect.

Usage

Enchanting

1–3 pieces of lapis lazuli are required to use an enchanting table to enchant an Minecraft:item. More specifically, the enchanting table UI shows 3 options (see Enchanting mechanics for details): the first, second, and third options cost 1, 2, and 3 lapis lazuli, respectively.

Crafting ingredient

Lapis lazuli can be used to make blocks of lapis lazuli and blue dye. Template:IN, it can also be used directly as a substitute for blue dye. Template:Crafting usage
