Lapis lazuli is a mineral required to enchant items in an enchanting table. It is also a major source of blue dye.
Obtaining

When mined with a stone pickaxe or better, lapis lazuli ore or deepslate lapis lazuli ore drops 4–9 lapis lazuli. With the Fortune III enchantment, a single block has a chance of dropping up to 36 items. The ore is most common at y level -2.

Aside from villager gifts in Java Edition, trading is the only renewable way to obtain lapis lazuli.
Villager gifts
in Template:Editions, cleric Minecraft:villagers give players lapis lazuli if they have the Hero of the Village effect.
Usage
Enchanting
1–3 pieces of lapis lazuli are required to use an enchanting table to enchant an Minecraft:item. More specifically, the enchanting table UI shows 3 options (see Enchanting mechanics for details): the first, second, and third options cost 1, 2, and 3 lapis lazuli, respectively.
Crafting ingredient
Lapis lazuli can be used to make blocks of lapis lazuli and blue dye. in Template:Editions, it can also be used directly as a substitute for blue dye. Template:Crafting usage

Template:IN, lapis lazuli can be:
- Applied to sheep to dye their wool, which can then be sheared for 1–3 blocks of blue wool.
- Applied to tamed wolves to dye their collars.
- Applied to tamed cats to dye their collars.
- Used to dye or stain wool, leather armor, beds, glass, terracotta, shulker boxes, candles, and harnesses.
- Combined with gunpowder to make a firework star.
- Combined with a firework star to create a fade-to-color effect.
- Used to add patterns to banners.
- Used to dye shulkers Template:In.
- Used to dye water contained in cauldrons Template:In.
- Combined with sand and gravel to craft concrete powder.
- Combined with compounds to craft balloons or glow sticks Template:In.
- Used to change the color of text on signs or hanging signs.
