Template:Infobox enchantment ChannelingTemplate:Fn is an Minecraft:enchantment applied to Minecraft:tridents that causes a Minecraft:lightning strike when thrown at an Minecraft:entity or Minecraft:lightning rod during a Minecraft:thunderstorm (Template:In) or at a lightning rod during any type of Minecraft:rain (Template:In).

Obtaining

Channeling on enchanted books can be obtained from Minecraft:enchanting tables, drops from mobs spawned in a Minecraft:raid,Template:Only Minecraft:fishing, librarian Minecraft:villagers, and in the following structures' loot chests: Minecraft:desert pyramid, Minecraft:stronghold, Minecraft:ocean ruins, Minecraft:woodland mansion, Minecraft:pillager outpost, Minecraft:ancient city, Minecraft:mineshaft, Minecraft:dungeon, Minecraft:jungle pyramids, and from Minecraft:vaults in Minecraft:trial chambers.

Usage

Channeling summons a Minecraft:lightning bolt when an entity or lightning rod is hit by a thrown Minecraft:trident, if there is currently a Minecraft:thunderstorm occurring. This applies to most entities that the trident can collide with: Minecraft:mobs, Minecraft:players, Minecraft:armor stands, Minecraft:boats, Minecraft:minecarts, Minecraft:end crystals, Minecraft:item frames, Minecraft:paintings, Minecraft:leash knots, and even Minecraft:shulker bullets. It does not apply to ghast Minecraft:fireballs and Minecraft:wind charges, and to entities that the trident can't collide with (Minecraft:small fireballs, Minecraft:arrows, Minecraft:experience orbs, thrown Minecraft:item entities, primed Minecraft:TNT, Minecraft:falling blocks, Minecraft:wither projectiles, and so on).

Channeling effectively increases Minecraft:projectile damage through its lightning bolt damage. Due to a bug regarding the duration of the lightning damage hitbox, the lightning from Channeling will occasionally not deal damage after the initial projectile hits.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>

For the enchantment to work, there must not be Minecraft:opaque or partially transparent blocks at any position above the target entity. This enchantment allows the Minecraft:player to transform some mobs into different mobs.

Mobs struck by lightning summoned by this enchantment react in the same way as they would if struck by Minecraft:lightning normally. The following mobs transform into another mob when hit:

As with a regular lightning strike, Minecraft:turtles are instantly killed and drop a Minecraft:bowl.

Template:IN, Channeling doesn't affect mobs in some circumstances<ref>Template:Bug</ref><ref>Template:Bug</ref><ref>Template:Bug</ref>. A mob cannot be: in Minecraft:water, Minecraft:lava, Minecraft:powder snow, Minecraft:cobweb, on Minecraft:soul sand, Minecraft:honey block, Minecraft:mud, or Minecraft:snow (if snow layer is 8) while being hit with this enchantment. Humanoid mobs in a Minecraft:minecart or in a Minecraft:boat which have the "riding" posture (see Template:Slink) also can't be struck with lightning, but other mobs in vehicles can be struck.

However, it should be noted that in the circumstances stated above, even though lightning cannot be summoned if the mob itself is hit by a Channeling trident, they are still affected by the lightning if it strikes nearby. For instance, if a Channeling trident hits an Minecraft:armor stand next to a creeper in water, the lightning is summoned as normal, and the creeper becomes charged from being in the affected radius of the lightning.

Template:IN, Channeling tridents thrown at Minecraft:lightning rods during rain create lightning without the need for a thunderstorm.

Lightning bolts summoned by Channeling tridents are not redirected by lightning rods.

Lightning from a Channeling trident never spawns a Minecraft:skeleton trap.

Incompatibilities

Channeling and Minecraft:Riptide are mutually exclusive. If combined using commands, Riptide supersedes Channeling.
