The ice spikes or ice plains spikes is a variant of the snowy plains, featuring Minecraft:ice spikes made of Minecraft:packed ice and other special features.

Generation

Generated in high weirdness values, ice spikes are most commonly separated from snowy plains by Minecraft:frozen rivers, and might border Minecraft:plains, Minecraft:snowy slopes, Minecraft:snowy beaches, Minecraft:stony shores, Minecraft:windswept gravelly hills, Minecraft:frozen oceans and rarely a Minecraft:cherry grove biome. Besides weirdness, ice spikes also require low Minecraft:temperatures as well as low Minecraft:humidity values during world generation.

Description

The ice spikes features large numbers of Minecraft:ice spikes and Minecraft:ice patches dotted across its landscape. No surface Minecraft:structures generate in this biome. Instead of grass blocks, Minecraft:snow blocks cover the ground. Vegetation is extraordinarily scarce, as it can only appear in locations where the underlying dirt was exposed during terrain generation. Minecraft:Spruce trees, Minecraft:sugar cane, poppies, Minecraft:dandelions, and Minecraft:short grass can appear under such an occasion. Like in typical biomes, Minecraft:lava lakes and Minecraft:ruined portals generate. Because the whole biome experiences Minecraft:snowfall, Minecraft:lightning typically doesn't strike within it (that is, without using a Minecraft:Channeling Minecraft:trident or summon command). The spikes are an excellent source of packed ice, which can be used for faster Minecraft:transportation, e.g. an unmeltable ice track for boats.

Ice spikes have fully unique graphical settings for Minecraft:Vibrant Visuals. Atmospherics are gray, both at horizon and zenith, and there are barely any color changes during sunset and sunrise. Sunlight is half as bright, and tinted pale blue during the entire day. Volumetric fog effects increase these effects, and the biome has the coldest color grading temperature of all biomes.

Minecraft:Survival in ice spikes is more challenging than in most biomes, comparable to the difficulty of Minecraft:deserts, due to the absence of trees and Minecraft:villages. Food is also scarce, with farm animals not spawning in the biome and the only proper food sources being the timid Minecraft:rabbit and the rare mount of a Minecraft:chicken jockey. When under direct sky access and not warmed by high block light values, Minecraft:water freezes, making above-ground Minecraft:farming and Minecraft:fishing more problematic. Finally, Minecraft:strays spawn on the surface at night alongside the usual Minecraft:hostile mobs, and the slippery landscape can make evasion difficult. Template:IN, Minecraft:zombie horses are programmed to spawn on the surface of ice spikes biomes, but they fail to do so naturally as the biome's surface is made of snow blocks instead of grass blocks, which are required for zombie horses to spawn. However, they can still spawn on player-placed grass blocks.
