Free-fly refers to a period during which StarCitizen:Star Citizen is free to play. It is essentially a free demo giving full access to everything in the game, but only for a time.<ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref>
During this time, players don't need a Star Citizen StarCitizen:Game package in order to play, and they have access to several StarCitizen:ships for free in their account, with all the other ships accessible by the usual in-game means such as using in-game currency to buy them or rent them.
History
The Star Citizen free-fly first appeared under the form of redeemable codes before becoming open to all periodically.
The aim of the free-fly is to make more people try the game and thus bring more players in.
Discounts
During the free to play period, there are also usually discounts on starters packs or specific ships, for the players who chose to continue playing once the free trial ends.
