Minecraft:Friends List
More actions
The friends list is a social menu Template:In. It allows users to add or remove friends, view their friends' statuses, and invite to or request to join online Minecraft:worlds.
Usage
The friends list can be accessed via the "Friends" button on the main menu or pause menu, or by using a keyboard shortcut (default Template:Key). When the Friends button is interacted with for the first time, a confirmation dialog box will appear asking the player whether they agree to use the friends list.
The friends list is presented as an overlay, containing two tabs:
- Friends: Displays currently added friends. Friends can be removed here or friend requests can be sent by entering the player's profile name.
- Requests (Quantity): Displays received friend requests (acceptable or rejectable) and sent friend requests (cancellable).
Sending, accepting, rejecting, canceling, and removing will all display the results in the friends list interface. If the service is unavailable, a rate limit is triggered, or the entered file name does not exist, the game will display the corresponding error message.
Enabling
The game joining functionality of the friends list must be enabled in the separate Online settings found with the other traditional settings. By default, the Allow Requests and In-game Notification settings are set to off, and must be enabled to allow the friends lists' full functionality. The user's Xbox account settings may also hinder the functionality of the friends list. Said Xbox account settings can also be accessed and changed from the in-game Online settings menu by selecting Xbox Settings.
The Online settings menu can also be used to enable and disable the friends list feature as a whole by using the Friends List setting. In-game invite notifications from friends can be enabled or disabled using the In-game Notifications setting. The way the user's activity appears to their friends online can be customized using the Presence setting, with three states: All, None, and Limited. When set to All, friends will see when the user is online and what they are doing (such as if they are actively playing in a world). When set to None, the user will appear as offline to their friends even when they are online, and their activity will not be shared. When set to Limited, friends will see when the user is online, but will not see what they are doing.
"Friends" tab
At the top of the friends tab is a search box, which can be used to enter the profile name of another player. Next to the search box is a "Send friend request" button with an envelope icon, which is used to send a friend request to the player who's profile name is entered in the search box. If nothing is entered in the search box, the send friend request button instead displays a tooltip reading "Enter a valid profile name before sending a friend request".
Below the search box is a field displaying "My profile name:" and the profile name of the player.
Below that is a list of the player's friends, displaying their player skin's face, their profile name, and their online status. To the right of each listed friend is a "Remove friend" button.
Online status
A friend's online status is displayed under their name, with there being four possible online statuses:
- Offline
- Online
- In a world
- In a joinable world
Friends who are online are listed before friends who are offline.
"Requests" tab
The Requests tab lists friend requests, sorted into sent and received. There is a "Cancel" button to the right of each sent request, and "Accept" and "Reject" buttons to the right of each received request.
Friends
The player can send a friend request to another player by entering their Template:JE profile name into the search box in the Friends tab and clicking on the "Send friend request" button. This will also send a friend request on the Xbox network. Both players will be notified about the friend request via a Minecraft:toast notification.
A list of sent and received friend requests can be found in the Requests tab. Sent friend request can be cancelled at any time. Received friend requests can be accepted or rejected, either in the Requests tab or on the Xbox network.
Friends added through the Xbox network that own Template:JE will be synchronized in-game, and vice versa.
Friends can be removed from the list in the Friends tab with the "Remove friend" button. This will also remove the friend from the Xbox friends list.
Multiplayer
If a Minecraft:world is set to online, friends can be invited to join. Friends can accept or deny the invite in the Friends tab.
The player can also request to join a friend's online world. The friend can accept or deny the request in the Friends tab.
When the player sends or receives an invite, or a request to join a world, they will be notified via a toast notification.
Notifications
Changes in the friends list while the game is open will be notified via a toast notification:
- Friend request sent
- Friend request received
- Another player accepted the friend request sent by the player
- Received invite to join a friend’s world
- Received request to join a world
- Invite to a world sent
The toast notification will also display the face of the other player's skin if it is available.
When in-game notification are turned off in the options, the toasts appear when the friends list is opened.
Updating
The friends list updates every minute while it is open; otherwise it updates every five minutes.
