16w02a is the forty-ninth Minecraft:snapshot for Minecraft:Java Edition 1.9, released on January 13, 2016.<ref name="blogpost">Template:Link</ref> This is the first snapshot released in 2016.

Additions

General

Minecraft:Options

  • Volume slider labeled "Voice/Speech" under "Music & Sounds".
    • Intended to be used for voice acting in custom maps.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref>

Changes

Blocks

Minecraft:Air

  • Now translatable into other languages, for the purposes of superflat customization.

Minecraft:Beacons

  • Now immediately activate when placed on valid pyramids.

Minecraft:Bedrock

  • Can no longer drop itself as an item.

Minecraft:Stone buttons

  • Now break faster with pickaxes.

Minecraft:Wooden buttons

  • Now break faster with axes.

Items

Minecraft:Armor

  • Changed damage/armor values again to protect armored players against "backstabbing" creepers.
    • Reduction in effective defense points due to attack strength no longer takes the effective defense below 25% of the armor points.
    • Max (20) armor points damage reduction increased back to 80% (was 66% since Minecraft:15w36a).

Mobs

General

  • Mobs are now knocked back from non-entity damage sources such as cacti (reverted in Minecraft:16w03a).

Minecraft:Ender dragons

  • When summoned using Template:Cmd, stay in the same position no matter what.
    • Unlike summoning a dragon with {NoAI:1b}, it still flaps its wings.
    • These dragons do not show their boss health bar, nor do they take damage from any attack other than Template:Cmd.

Non-mob entities

Minecraft:Armor stands

  • Marker ArmorStands now only outlines their equipment when glowing.

Command format

Template:Cmd

  • Now outputs various messages prefixed by "Searge says:" when run in a command block.
    • Searge says: Yolo
    • Searge says: /achievement take achievement.understandCommands @p
    • Searge says: Ask for help on twitter
    • Searge says: /deop @p
    • Searge says: Scoreboard deleted, commands blocked
    • Searge says: Contact helpdesk for help
    • Searge says: /testfornoob @p
    • Searge says: /trigger warning
    • Searge says: Oh my god, it's full of stats
    • Searge says: /kill @p[name=!Searge]
    • Searge says: Have you tried turning it off and on again?
    • Searge says: Sorry, no help today

Template:Cmd

  • Now accepts a sound <source> as its second parameter.

Minecraft:Selector

  • m
    • Now supports both negation and literal gamemode values.
      • Example: @p[m=!1], @p[m=c], and @p[m=!spectator].

Gameplay

Combat

  • Attack cooldown does not have as great an effect on damage: reduction is linear 50%–100% rather than quadratic 0%–100%.
