Minecraft:World (downloadable content)
More actions
Minecraft:Minecraft distributes several official Minecraft:worlds, also known as maps, as type of Minecraft:downloadable content. They are typically sold as world templates combined with Minecraft:add-ons through the Minecraft:Marketplace, available for free on websites, or bundled within the game. The world serves as a template for a game of Template:MC, typically either a setting for one of the Minecraft:game modes or a linear story.
Usage
Marketplace maps
Marketplace worlds are distributed as world templates, a package format that allows player's to create a world with world data from the map. The world template often comes with resource and behavior packs that customize the appearance and gameplay. Some worlds may lock certain game settings for the experience, but these may be unlocked by the player.
Worlds in the Marketplace often come together with Minecraft:skin packs. A Minecraft:mash-up pack combines a world with a skin pack and a Minecraft:texture pack. There are four types of Marketplace worlds:
Dynamic worlds
Template:More citations needed Dynamic worlds don't have a set build like normal pre-built ones, instead they can be generated from scratch like a Minecraft world. These worlds allow for a whole new experience every time because they generate differently depending on the seed. Sometimes they also include add-ons and texture packs as well.
Adventure maps
Adventure maps are self-contained experiences that focus on exploring and other types of guided gameplay, usually in Minecraft:Adventure mode. These types of worlds can range from PvP arenas to simulators and can be designed for singleplayer, multiplayer or both.
Minigames
Minigames are compact worlds with a specific theme or goal that are designed to be repeatable. These can feature a set of different gamemodes and variants or be designed to reset continuously.
Survival spawns
Survival spawns are starter maps in the Minecraft:Survival game mode that players can explore, gain loot from and expand. Maps of this type can sometimes add an entirely new aspect to the game but still allows players to experience the world as they normally would in Survival mode.
Other worlds
Worlds can also be distributed outside the Marketplace, usually for Template:JE. They are .zip or .mcworld world files that the player can import the game, but not on the console versions of Template:BE. Mojang Studios sometimes provides download links for official maps outside the Marketplace.
Java Edition worlds are not compatible with Bedrock Edition and vice versa, but most of their data can be converted with external tools like Minecraft:Chunker.
Template:Edu has several lesson maps provided in the Library that can be downloaded for free.
