History

The Legatus pack was originally created by StarCitizen:Cloud Imperium in 2018 at the request of the more hardcore segment of the Star Citizen community, such as those who lead large StarCitizen:player organizations.<ref name=":0">Star Citizen’s $27,000 bundle raises eyebrows, but Cloud Imperium Games says there’s an explanation, polygon.com, May 30, 2018</ref> As with everything beyond a starter package containing the game itself, the pack content is a "bonus" for the additional money put forward to help crowdfund the game.<ref>Sandi Roberts Interview Part One...How Star Citizen Came To Be, Inforunners, YouTube, 25 apr. 2022</ref><ref>Star Citizen: An Interview With Chris Roberts | Forbes, Forbes, YouTube, 18 may 2013</ref> The pack does not contain exclusive or extra content separate from the main game and also should not be confused with DLC.<ref>DLC definition, Oxford Learners Dictionaries, 2024-06-01</ref>

With the number of vehicles and items in the game expanding over the years, the Legatus pack is regularly updated with new content and a new price. Initially in 2018 it was released at US$27,000, while the Legatus 2953 pack that released in the first quarter of 2024 contains among others 175 vehicles and is priced at US$48,000.<ref name=":1" />
