Minecraft:Screen effects

From SAS Gaming Wiki

Template:Redirect Template:Page image Screen effects encompass a variety of effects applied alongside or beneath the Minecraft:heads-up display as augmentations to the Minecraft:player's point of view as a method of conveying further information about a player's current state. They are not to be confused with visual effects caused by the game's Minecraft:shaders, which are applied directly in the game rendering.

Overlays

Suffocation

Template:Infobox screen effect Template:Conjecture This effect manifests when an applicable mob or player's eye level intersects specific Minecraft:blocks; generally those that are full solid cubes and block both vision and movement, with the exception of Minecraft:ice.

Template:IN this effect involves a darkened version of the block texture covering the entire area of the screen.

Template:IN, the block's texture is instead arranged into a cube around the player in which the camera can move. This is the case regardless of the player's placement inside the block; the player can be at the edge of it (such that the player's view is partially outside it and the outside texture is clearly visible) and the player can still be rendered as if at the exact center of the cube.

On fire

Template:Infobox screen effect Template:Conjecture When the player is on Minecraft:fire, this animated effect is applied to the screen. This is caused by being inside of Minecraft:fire or Minecraft:lava (even in Minecraft:Creative mode, although not in Minecraft:Spectator), after exiting such a block (except in Creative/Spectator), or being set on fire through the attack of a burning mob or a burning arrow.

This overlay always displays as Minecraft:fire, even if the player in question is inside of soul fire.

Template:IN this effect involves two intersecting texture planes being rendered across the bottom half of the screen with the fire texture.

Template:IN, the fire texture is rendered as a cubemap around the player with only the front and a small part of the sides visible.

Nether portal

Template:Infobox screen effect Template:Conjecture Note: this section discusses the Nether portal texture overlay. The Nether portal/nausea wobble effect is discussed in the Distortion effect/Nausea sickness overlay sections.

When the player is inside of a Minecraft:Nether portal, this effect is applied to the screen. It always coincides with either the distortion effect and/or its overlay.

Template:IN this effect involves the Minecraft:Nether portal texture being stretched across the entirety of the screen.

Template:IN, the texture is instead arranged into a cube around the player in which the camera can move.

Underwater

Template:Infobox screen effect Template:Expand section The underwater effect is a blue vignette.

Nausea sickness overlay

Template:Infobox screen effect Template:Exclusive This effect is a green vignette.

This effect appears only when the player has Minecraft:Nausea, and the distortion effect is set to 0%. The effect becomes more transparent as the slider is turned up, until 100% distortion, in which it disappears.

Darkness vignette

Template:Infobox screen effect This effect is a black circular blur at the corners. This effect is similar to a regular vignette. This effect appears usually in Minecraft:caves; however, it can appear in any dark place. It also appears when players are inside the structure of Minecraft:trial chambers.

In Bedrock Edition, the vignette gradually fades in as the Minecraft:sky darkens below Y=32, and at Y=-12, it suddenly turns into it's full opacity.

World border overlay

Template:Infobox screen effect Template:Exclusive The Minecraft:world border effect is a red vignette. This effect becomes more intense as the player moves closer to the world border. The effect reaches its maximum strength when the player goes past the world border.

Freezing overlay

Template:Infobox screen effect The freezing overlay is a circular formation of crystals and snow flakes that appears when the player is freezing in Minecraft:powder snow. This effect slowly fades in until it is at full opacity.

If the player equips leather armor while freezing, this overlay fades out slowly, then disappears.

Pumpkin blur

Template:Infobox screen effect The pumpkin blur is a cut-out shape of the carved pumpkin's face that appears when wearing a Minecraft:carved pumpkin. Template:IN, the texture is stretched to the edges of the screen; Template:In, the texture is placed in the middle of the screen, with dark edges filling the rest.

Spyglass scope

Template:Infobox screen effect The spyglass scope is a brown square in the middle of the screen that appears when using a Minecraft:spyglass. This scope effect quickly zooms in when using a spyglass, until the top and bottom are partly covered.

Animated sprites and models

Mining Fatigue

Template:Infobox screen effect Template:Conjecture When within a spherical radius of 50 blocks of an Minecraft:elder guardian, the player is inflicted with Minecraft:Mining Fatigue III. This is indicated by a ghost of an elder guardian appearing in the player's view, which moves from the top of the screen to the bottom.

Template:IN, this occurrence is considered a particle effect; it can be summoned with the Template:Cmd command.

Template:IN, this occurrence is caused by a separate mob called the elder guardian ghost. However, when it is summoned using Template:Cmd, it is invisible and rises to the sky.

The model of the elder guardian is used for this effect. This means that changing the texture and model associated with the elder guardian also changes what appears on the player's screen.

Totem of Undying

Template:Infobox screen effectThe effect appears when a totem of undying is used. The totem spins to the middle of the screen and disappears. Template:IN, the totem of undying effect is a full 3D model. Template:IN, the totem of undying effect is a 2D texture.

Hero of the Village

Template:Infobox screen effect Template:Exclusive This effect appears when the player obtains Minecraft:Hero of the Village from defeating a Minecraft:raid. This effect does not happen when the effect is given through commands. It is similar to the totem of undying effect.

Raid Omen

Template:Infobox screen effect Template:Exclusive This screen effect appears when the player enters a village while under the Minecraft:Bad Omen effect, converting it into Minecraft:Raid Omen. This effect does not appear when giving Raid Omen through commands, and it looks similar to the totem of undying effect.

Transformations

Damage tilt

File:Damage tilt.png
Damage tilt effect

Template:IN, when the player receives damage, the screen tilts to the direction opposite of the entity or block who damaged the player.

Template:IN, when the player receives damage, the screen tilts to the right regardless of the damage direction.

The strength of damage tilting can be adjusted in the settings.

View bobbing

View bobbing is a toggleable feature that adds a slight movement of the screen from left to right when walking. It also affects items and blocks in the player's hand.

Distortion effects

These effects are seen when the player either goes through a nether portal or has the nausea status effect. Different levels do not affect the distortion. However, the effect can be affected by changing the distortion effect setting.Template:Only

FOV based changes

While sprinting, flying, swimming or while affected by a speed effect, the FOV (field of view) increases. The FOV decreases when being affected by the slowness effect, while using a spyglass, by using a bow, or by going into water or powder snow. The FOV can be changed in settings with a minimum of 30, and a maximum of 110. Different levels of slowness or speed affect the FOV more than others.

FOV effects can be toggled in the settings.

Camera shake

Template:Exclusive

With the Template:Cmd command, a player's camera can perform a shaking effect. This can be either positional (shaking the camera position) or rotational (shaking the camera direction). The effect can be disabled in the settings.
