StarCitizen:Ship Insurance
More actions
Insurance policies are taken out by pilots for their ships, and modifications. Basic level One hull insurance will insure a pilot against the loss of the hull and the stock components that it came attached with. A regular fee must be paid to maintain this policy and operates as a reasonable running cost.
Levels of Insurance
Ships can be insured by three policy plans<ref name="CC54">2954: The Stars My Destination: Star Citizen 1.0 on YouTube</ref><ref name="LTIN">Notes for Star Citizen 1.0 on Spectrum</ref>:
- Level One
- chassis and original, purchase-included, components.
- Level Two
- chassis and custom components.
- Level Three
- chassis, custom components, and ship decorations.
Upon claiming an insurance, the player will be reimbursed the devalued cost of the ship according to the insurance level. Unless the ship has a warranty, it will be up to the player to repurchase the ship and components covered by the policy<ref name="CC54" /><ref name="LTIN" />.
Warranty
A Warranty allows the player to forfeit the reimbursement process and grant a ship replacement to the player without devaluation. All ships pledged on the store come with a Warranty. In the case of a ship being lost with an expired insurance but with a Warranty, the player will be able to expend an undisclosed sum to reclaim the ship. It will be possible to earn Transferable Warranties for ships acquired ingame<ref name="CC54" /><ref name="LTIN" />.
Making a Claim
At the Ship Retrieval Consoles, near hangars and pads, all owned ships are listed with their status. From there, Citizens have three options:
- Retrieve
- If the ship is currently Stored, the ship may be retrieved to the nearest available pad/hangar and flown.
- Claim
- Claiming a Destroyed or Stored ship abandons the current ship (if it exists) and starts the claim timer.
When a Claim is submitted for a ship, the terminal will display the estimated Delivery time for a new ship, with all stock equipment.
At the users' choice, they may pay an Expedite fee to drastically reduce the claim time until a new ship is provided.
Lifetime Insurance
Lifetime Insurance (LTI) is present for any ships:
- purchased before November 26, 2013 by original and veteran backers,<ref name="ReferenceA">Template:Cite RSI</ref>
- purchased during their concept sales before April 2018,
- purchased with new money ("warbond") during their concept sales,

- that cost $1000 or more,
- that are in a package that costs $1000 or more,
- that are in some other specific packages (such as those available to Concierge backers).
LTI policies are a never expiring level One<ref name="CC54" /><ref name="LTIN" /> insurance policy. LTI does not exist for modifications or cargo.<ref>Template:Cite RSI</ref> Insurance claims may be denied in cases of proven fraud.<ref name="ReferenceA" />
