Farming is one of the eleven Dragonwilds:Skills in Runescape: Dragonwilds and allows players to grow various plants. The skill was released as part of the 0.10 Dragonwilds:Fellhollow update.

To level up this skill, players must weed, sow, fertilize, water, cure, and harvest crops.

To begin, players must complete Dragonwilds:Growing Pains by talking to the Dragonwilds:Wise Old Man in Dragonwilds:Bramblemead Valley. Once the Quest is completed, players can create Dragonwilds:Farming Plots to get started with Farming.

Items

Seeds

Dragonwilds:Seeds can be collected from picking wild plants, looting Dragonwilds:Chests and Dragonwilds:Packs, or harvesting grown plants. Players can then equip Dragonwilds:Seeds and, when used, will sow plants in Dragonwilds:Farming Plots or the ground. Planting Trees requires Dragonwilds:Tree Farming unlocked at level 20.

Dragonwilds:Redberry Bushes, Dragonwilds:Dwellberry Bushes, Dragonwilds:Cadavaberry Bushes, Dragonwilds:Ash Trees, Dragonwilds:Oak Trees, and Dragonwilds:Willow Trees can be harvested without having to replant seeds.

Constructs

Through levelling Farming, players unlock building recipes for various constructs that assist with Farming.

Farming plots

Most seeds need to be used on a Dragonwilds:Farming plot to grow, with tree seeds being the only exception, and can be grown on the ground. The plots' descriptions state that crops from the region associated with the plot "grow better," and although it's clear that higher tier crops in lower tier plots have a significantly higher disease rate, it's unknown what the rate is. Dragonwilds:Yew Farming Plots are the only type that can be built in Dragonwilds:Umbral Sands.

Mechanics

Growth cycles

Seeds take 2 in-game days to grow (progressing at the beginning of each day) and have several growth stages with distinct visual graphics. While growing, plants can become diseased. Diseased crops cannot be harvested, and if left untreated, will die the following day. Planting seeds in a plot for their region, watering, and composting them will significantly lower (but not remove) the chance of disease. Healthy and harvestable crops no longer have a chance to become diseased, and can be left when no longer farming.

Each plant has a base DiseaseChance:

Or in other words, a Dragonwilds:Potato has a base 30% chance of becoming diseased each growth cycle.

Weeding

When Dragonwilds:Farming Plots are first placed, they have a layer of weeds. As long as nothing is planted in the plot, layers of weeds will continue to build up once each day, up to 3 layers per plot. These will need to be removed with a shovel before anything can be planted. Each layer will provide a base 3 XP and 3 Dragonwilds:Weeds. Higher power level shovels can do so in fewer actions.

Seeding

Players must equip Dragonwilds:Seeds to then use them, which will seed Dragonwilds:farming plots or the ground, depending on the seed used. This provides a base 5 XP per seed planted, regardless of type or plot.

Watering

Farming plots can be watered once per day, which will significantly lower the chance of disease and slightly increase yield. Players can use Dragonwilds:Watering Cans on natural water sources (e.g., ponds and rivers) to fill the can with Dragonwilds:Dirty Water or collect Dragonwilds:Clean Water from Dragonwilds:Rain Catchers or Dragonwilds:Wells and then use the can directly on the plots. Alternatively, players can cast Dragonwilds:Humidify with their watering can in their inventory, which will use whichever water is inside to water the plots in a straight line in front of the player. Note, however, that the items with the same name gathered by hand and then cooked at a Dragonwilds:Campfire or Dragonwilds:Grill cannot be used to fill a Dragonwilds:Watering Can.

Crops have their own individual chance of disease, which are further modified by whether they are watered and with what type:

  • No Water - Unwatered crops have a further 0.8x chance of disease
  • Dragonwilds:Dirty Water - Offers a lower 0.3x chance of disease and 1.15x yield
  • Dragonwilds:Clean Water - Offers an even lower 0.2x chance of disease and 1.15x yield

Watering a plot with a plant that was just seeded, is harvestable, diseased, or dead will provide a small base 2 XP, however watering growing plants in an Dragonwilds:Ash Farming Plot provides base 15 XP, an Dragonwilds:Oak Farming Plot provides base 30 XP, a Dragonwilds:Willow Farming Plot provides base 45 XP, and a Dragonwilds:Yew Farming Plot provides base 60 XP.

Rain will automatically water plots with Dragonwilds:Clean Water, which can save time, however it will not provide XP or cure disease.

Fertilising

Fertilising plots helps prevent disease and increase yield. A plot only needs to be fertilized once during its cycle until it is fully harvested and cleared. Players can convert organic materials into Dragonwilds:compost at a Dragonwilds:compost bin or Dragonwilds:Super Compost at a Dragonwilds:Super Compost Bin, and then collect and spread the fertiliser with a Dragonwilds:compost bucket on plots.

As there are not currently any higher power level Dragonwilds:Compost Buckets, it is recommended to craft and carry several at once to minimise how frequently you need to return to the Dragonwilds:Compost Bins while composting Dragonwilds:Farming Plots. Dragonwilds:Compost provides a base 10 XP per plot, while Dragonwilds:Super Compost provides a base 50 XP.

Curing

Diseased plants will change graphically with a brownish-yellow haze, and read "Diseased" when hovering over the plot. Players must cure the plant to prevent it from dying if left diseased for too long. There are three ways of cleansing diseased plants:

If the plant is cleansed, it will return to its current growth stage. This means that if a plant is diseased in its final growth stage but the player cures it the same day, the player can harvest it without waiting another day. Curing a plant provides a base 3 XP.

The XP values of the above actions are listed with the folowing boosts:

Harvesting

The yield when harvesting can be modeled as so:

Yield = ceil( ceil( ceil(BaseYield * SecateursYieldMultiplier) * CompostYieldMultiplier) * WaterYieldMultiplier)}}

With maximal buffs, players can expect to receive 9 Dragonwilds:Flax, Dragonwilds:Corpse Cotton, Dragonwilds:Desert Weed, Dragonwilds:Bunny Cactus, Dragonwilds:Fibrous Pipe Cactus, Dragonwilds:Barrel Cactus or 15 of every other plant per harvest. Subsequent harvests of berry bushes will provide less.

The Dragonwilds:Uproot spell (and its upgraded version Dragonwilds:Harvester) can be used to harvest crops in a (larger) radius, but it does not work with the Dragonwilds:Iron Secateurs, and so may result in a lower yield.

The Harvest XP is modified by the yield as well as other factors, and can be modeled as so:

HarvestXP = ceil((BaseHarvestXP * (1 + Yield * HarvestXpFactor) * GlobalXPModifier) * GlobalReduction)

  • BaseHarvestXP = 8
  • HarvestXPFactor = 1 for Tier 1 (Brynmoor), 2 for Tier 2 (Ghornfell), and 3 for Tier 3 (Fellhollow and Umbral Sands).
  • GlobalXPModifier = 1 for 0% XP Boosts, 1.1 * 1.05 for 15% XP Boosts, 1.1 * 1.05 * 1.15 for 30% XP Boosts, and 1.1 * 1.05 * 1.3 for 45% XP Boosts (Note that these values are multiplicative in formula, but written additively for legibility).
  • GlobalReduction = 1 is the default, 0.05 for subsequent berry-bush harvests.

The Harvest XP is then listed below assuming maximum yield with Dragonwilds:Iron Secateurs, Dragonwilds:Super Compost, and Dragonwilds:Clean Water, and with the following XP Boosts:

Harvest XP 0% XP BOOST 15% XP BOOST<ref>Note that XP Boosts are multiplicative and do not match these exact values in the header. This is with an Inspiring Ring of Farming (5%), and Knowledgable Nourishment (10%).</ref> 30% XP BOOST<ref>Note that XP Boosts are multiplicative and do not match these exact values in the header.
