The barnacle,<ref name="BarnacleDevPanel">Template:Ytl</ref> originally known as Mob A or the "Monster of the Ocean Depths", was a proposed Minecraft:mob featured in the Mob Vote during Minecraft:MINECON Earth 2017, alongside the Minecraft:great hunger, the Minecraft:phantom and the Minecraft:wildfire.<ref>Template:Mcnet</ref>
It was an ocean creature that resembled a gigantic counterpart of the real-world animal, which would have sucked down players down with its tentacle. The mob spawns in the Minecraft:deep ocean Minecraft:biome and has a large mouth that it uses to propel itself through the water and pull players down into the ocean. In a promotional video for the Mob Vote, Minecraft:Jeb encouraged players to vote for 'Mob A' as "the oceans currently don't have that much content, and it would make it more exciting when traveling from island to island."<ref>Template:Tweet</ref> While the barnacle was ultimately scrapped, the concept of a water-based mechanic that pulled players down was later added with the Minecraft:magma blocks being given the ability to create Minecraft:bubble columns.
The barnacle was eliminated after the first poll, receiving only 23% of the votes.<ref>Template:Tweet</ref>
