Minecraft:Java Edition 1.17 Pre-release 1

1.17 Pre-release 1 (known as 1.17-pre1 in the launcher) is the first pre-release for Minecraft:Java Edition 1.17, released on May 27, 2021,<ref>Template:Mcnet</ref> which re-adds candles to Minecraft:Survival mode, changes Minecraft:credits and the glowing on signs, adds new Minecraft:advancements and Minecraft:splashes and fixes bugs. This is the first pre-release released in 2021.

Minecraft:Candles

• Re-added candles to the creative inventory.
• Candles can be crafted again.

Minecraft:Potted azalea and Minecraft:potted flowering azalea

• Obtained by planting Minecraft:azalea or Minecraft:flowering azalea into a flower pot.

Command format

Template:Cmd

• Starts a recording for 10 seconds capturing metrics such as tick durations, used heap sizes and other more detailed stats.
• Executing again before the 10-second limit ends the recording early.

Minecraft:Advancements

• Added eleven new advancements:
  • Whatever Floats Your Goat!
    • Float in a Minecraft:boat with a Minecraft:goat.
  • Wax On
    • Apply Minecraft:wax to a Minecraft:copper block.
  • Wax Off
    • Scrape wax off a copper block.
  • The Cutest Predator
    • Catch an Minecraft:axolotl in a Minecraft:bucket.
  • The Healing Power of Friendship!
    • Team up with an axolotl and win a fight.
  • Glow and Behold!
    • Make a Minecraft:sign glow.
  • Light as a Rabbit
    • Walk on Minecraft:powder snow with Minecraft:leather boots.
  • Surge Protector
    • Have lightning strike a Minecraft:lightning rod near a Minecraft:villager without setting the area on fire.
  • Is It a Bird?
    • Look at a Minecraft:parrot through a Minecraft:spyglass.
  • Is It a Balloon?
    • Look at a Minecraft:ghast through a spyglass.
  • Is It a Plane?
    • Look at an Minecraft:ender dragon through a spyglass.
• Adds new advancement triggers.
  • started_riding
    • Triggered when player starts riding a vehicle or entity starts riding vehicle currently ridden by player.
  • lightning_strike
    • Triggers for any player on the server when lightning finishes (i.e. entity disappears).
  • using_item
    • Triggered for every tick of using items (like crossbows, spyglass, fishing rods, etc).

General

Minecraft:Predicate

• Added lightning_bolt sub-predicate.

Minecraft:Splashes

• Added the following splash texts:
  • "[this splash text has been delayed until part 2]"
  • "Contains simulated goats!"
  • "Home-made!"
  • "There's <<a cat on ,my keyboard!~"Template:Sic
  • "The cutest predator you'll ever meet!"
  • "Now you are thinking with pistons!"
  • "Get to the coppah!"
  • "Board game version also available!"
  • "Honey, I waxed the copper!"
  • "Plant-based light sources!"
  • "Made by "real" people!"

Minecraft:Tags

• Added lava_pool_stone_replaceables block tag.
  • Includes the #features_cannot_replace block tag and the #leaves block tag.
• Added geode_invalid_blocks block tag.
  • Includes Minecraft:bedrock, Minecraft:water, Minecraft:lava, Minecraft:ice, Minecraft:packed ice, and Minecraft:blue ice.

Minecraft:Candles

• Candles now have a different texture when lit.

Minecraft:Signs

• Glowing text on signs now has an outer glow, making text in dark colors more visible in the dark.

Items

Minecraft:Big dripleaf and Minecraft:small dripleaf

• Changed the held item models in the player's right hand.

Command format

Template:Cmd

• Removes debug report command.
• Replaced by Template:Key and Template:Cmd.

Gameplay

Minecraft:Advancements

• Added source condition to effects_changed trigger.

Minecraft:Crafting

• It is now no longer possible to craft Minecraft:suspicious stew using Minecraft:flowering azalea or Minecraft:flowering azalea leaves.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>

General

Credits

• Updated the credits, which were brought over from Bedrock Edition; as a result, the credits are significantly longer, as they include people and corporations that did not work on Java Edition.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
• Changed the format from Template:Cd to Template:Cd.
• Now scroll faster when holding Template:Key.

Minecraft:Predicate

• Added passenger, stepping_on and lightning_bolt properties to entity_properties predicate
• Added looking_at (entity currently viewed by player) condition to player sub-predicate.
• Expanded item field on item predicate to items.
• Now accepts an array of item types.
• Expanded block field on block predicate to blocks.
  • Now accepts an array of block types.

Minecraft:Splashes

• Removed "Woo, /v/!"

Minecraft:Tags

• Added Minecraft:flowering azalea and Minecraft:flowering azalea leaves to the flowers block and item tags.
• Removed flowering azalea and flowering azalea leaves from the small_flowers block and item tags.
  • This prevents Minecraft:endermen from picking up these blocks, as well as crafting suspicious stew with them.
• Removed Minecraft:moss carpet from the mineable/axe block tag.
• Added potted azalea bushes and potted flowering azaleas bushes to the flower_pots block tag.
• Added non-waxed oxidized copper variants to the needs_stone_tool block tag.
