Performance improvements (October 13, 2009)
- Terrain rendering optimizations make the game render as much as 40% faster.
- However, the pre-rendering code for entities still significantly slows down the game.
Explosions update (October 20, 2009)
Word of Notch post, YouTube video
- Creeper explosions no longer destroy stone or stone-like blocks.
- Explosions leave black smoldering particle effects over the effected area.
- Optimized resource usage by making far-away entities invisible; the distance they are visible in depends on entity size.
- Removed background gradient from GUIs.

Dirt slab test (October 22, 2009)
- Half-sized dirt block test.
- Dirt slabs replaced dirt upon generation.
- Slabs caused the tile they are in to be darkened.
- Cannot be climbed or made into double slabs yet.
- You cannot break blocks behind the slabs, as their hitbox is that of a full block.
Rain fix (October 22, 2009)
- Thinner rain.
- Ceilings prevents rain from falling through.
-

- A mockup was made in a graphics editor over the screenshot from the previous post.
Slab progress (October 23, 2009)

- Half block nearly finished.
- Dirt is no longer converted to dirt slabs on worldgen.
- The player can now properly climb up slabs.
- No longer cause adjacent blocks to be darkened.
- The top layer of water is now fully bright.

- Minecraft:Mossy cobblestone, Minecraft:TNT, Minecraft:block of iron, Minecraft:bookshelf, and Minecraft:bricks.
