Extravehicular activity (EVA) is any activity done by an astronaut in outer space outside a spacecraft. In the absence of a breathable Earthlike atmosphere, the astronaut is completely reliant on a space suit for environmental support.

  • Class I space suits are emergency protection against vacuum, but are not otherwise useful.
  • Class II space suits are a reasonably light with limited EVA capabilities.
  • Class III space suits add on armor protection.
  • Class IV space suits are specified for military operation, combining armor, self-repair, tactical displays, and limited EVA capabilities.
  • Class V space suits improve on Class IV. Little else is known of them.
  • Class VI space suits are specified as combat armor, adding on significant bulk and useful in boarding operations.
  • Class VII space suits improve on Class VI with heavy mechanisation to enable the wielding of heavy weapons.
  • Class VIII space suits are intended for long-term operation in space, utilising a full Manned Maneuvering Unit.
  • Class IX space suits are fully mechanised exosuits, including the StarCitizen:Titan exosuit brand.
