Lore

The Lunch Button has gone through several editions and iteration before arriving at its current implementation. Originally conceived as a propaganda piece by Big Benny as a mandatory installation in StarCitizen:890 Jumps, the Lunch Button released to wild acclaim.

Although the Incendiary Lunch Scandal of 2924 resulted in the near-complete destruction of its public goodwill, Lunch Button Incorporated (LBI) rallied public opinion by providing devastated citizens of Vega free airdrops of lunch buttons after the StarCitizen:Vanduul attacks. Critics decry this move as "a calculated marketing strategy rather than actual charity", though none can deny its positive effect on the populace.

Controversies

As a feature of Star Citizen, the lunch button became a magnet for controversies; mostly surrounding its addition to the game mechanics beyond the original stretch goals. Prominent community members protest the addition of the button, stating: "The Lunch Button is feature creep!",<ref>#Wiki 10:52 AM 18/11/2016 DuskFyre</ref> insisting that CIG should focus on more important tasks "like StarCitizen:pets and space plants!" <ref>#Wiki 10:53 AM 18/11/2016 DocAndy</ref> The controversy increased when it was discovered that the Lunch Button idea was invented by the writers of the television series Far Out Space NutsTemplate:WP.
