Template:Infobox block A large fern is a 2-block tall variant of the Minecraft:fern.
Obtaining
Breaking
When Minecraft:broken normally, a large fern has a 12.5% chance of dropping 1 Minecraft:wheat seeds item. This is affected by the Minecraft:Fortune enchantment, dropping 1–3, 1–5, or 1–7 wheat seeds with Fortune I, II, and III respectively.
When broken using Minecraft:shears, a large fern drops two Minecraft:ferns instead.
Placing any block on a large fern breaks the fern and causes it to not drop any Minecraft:wheat seeds. Template:Breaking row
Natural generation
Large ferns occur naturally only in Minecraft:taiga, Minecraft:snowy taiga, and Minecraft:old growth taiga biomes.
Large ferns can additionally be found around some taiga and snowy taigaTemplate:Only Minecraft:village houses.
Similarly to Minecraft:tall grass, large ferns can only obtained as an item in Survival by being found in taiga village house chests.
Large ferns can also generate in Minecraft:abandoned camps.Template:Upcoming
Generated loot
Post-generation
Minecraft:Bone meal can be used on a Minecraft:fern to grow it into a large fern.
Usage
Most 2-block tall plants, including large ferns, have a disproportionately large hitbox compared to other plants.<ref>Template:Bug</ref> The only exception to this rule is Minecraft:tall seagrass.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
Composting
Placing a large fern into a Minecraft:composter has a 65% chance of raising the compost level by 1.
Color
The coloration of large ferns is dependent on the Minecraft:biome they are in. A grass block always uses the color set to its location, regardless of how it was placed or of its source. This affects the side and top of the block.
Item
