Template:For Template:Infobox item
A pickaxe is a Minecraft:tiered Minecraft:tool that is required to mine most types of stone, Minecraft:ores, and blocks crafted from stone or ores. The Minecraft:mining level of a given pickaxe determines which blocks it can collect.
Variants
There are seven pickaxe variants:
Obtaining
Crafting
Wooden, golden, stone, copper, iron, and diamond pickaxes are crafted using two Minecraft:sticks and three of the tier’s material.
Smithing
Generated loot
Usage
Breaking
A pickaxe is used to break stone-based and metal-based materials faster. Different qualities of pickaxe are required to successfully harvest certain ores and blocks. For example, while Minecraft:stone can be mined with any pickaxe, Minecraft:gold ore must be mined with an Minecraft:iron pickaxe, Minecraft:diamond pickaxe, or Minecraft:netherite pickaxe, or else the player harvests no item.
Speed
Different pickaxes also mine many materials at different speeds due to differing mining efficiencies. The following table shows the number of seconds required to break each type of block:
Statistics
Java Edition
Template:IN, pickaxes have an attack speed of 1.2 (0.833 seconds), and have the following statistics:
| Type | Mining efficiency | Mining level | Attack damage | Attack speed | DPS | Attack range | Hitbox margin | Durability | Lifetime damage inflicted<ref group="note">The formula to find the total lifetime damage is ceil(durability ÷ 2) × damage per hit. The durability is halved then ceiled because pickaxes take double durability when used as a weapon, and the last 1 durability can also deal damage. The formula also ignores enchantments, and assumes each attack is performed at maximum charge.</ref> |

Template:IN, pickaxes have no attack cooldown, and have the following statistics:
| Type | Mining efficiency | Mining level | Attack damage | DPS | Attack range | Hitbox margin | Durability | Lifetime damage inflicted<ref group="note">The formula to find the total lifetime damage is ceil(durability ÷ 2) × damage per hit. The durability is halved then ceiled because pickaxes take double durability when used as a weapon, and the last 1 durability can also deal damage. The formula also ignores enchantments.</ref> |
