Microsoft's Title Management Storage system was an entirely data driven system that allowed Xbox 360 developers to quickly and, usually not permanently, update some game content remotely without a Title Update. This was often used for time limited cosmetics, daily multiplayer map playlists, and other game features that required being switched out or changed on demand. For Minecraft, the pack icons for Xbox Marketplace items, the IDs of several people associated with the game (Xbox Live XUIDs), and special cape and skin assets for these accounts were stored here. ===ANIM=== | ===ANIM===
Introduced in Minecraft:TU7, the <code>ANIM</code> parameter uses a hexadecimal value with a "0x" prefix that represents a bit-mask for overriding the player's animation settings found inside of <code>SkinAdjustments</code>. The size and effects of this mask depend on the version of the game being used. It does not accept an integer value and the "0x" prefix must be present. Initially starting out as a 4-bit value, the bit-mask would grow to be 32-bit after Minecraft:TU24. This parameter is not to be confused with the <code>ANIM</code> parameter found for <code>DLCTextureFile</code> that handles animated textures for blocks and items. All entities in LCE have a <code>SkinAdjustments</code> bit-mask and it controls all of the display states for that entity, such as which animations are currently displayed. For DLC skins, it was most often used for disabling boxes of the base player model to make space in the texture for custom boxes. Starting with Minecraft:TU24, it can set the player model to Minecraft:Java Edition 1.8 style "wide" and "slim" models. If either of these models are used, it causes the main player boxes to have their south UVs flipped on the V (vertical) axis, as is the case in JE, but does not affect custom box parameters. Some skins have custom effects but were introducted before <code>ANIM</code> was introduced, so these skins had hardcoded effects by skin ID until the packs were eventually updated to use <code>ANIM</code> in later versions. An example animation override value that sets the model type to "Slim", removes the <code>HEADWEAR</code> box, and disables leg animation would be <code>0x80014</code>.

There are a few skins that existed prior to the <code>ANIM</code> parameter's inclusion in Minecraft:TU7 that retroactively received special skin effects after release. Oddly, these skins' effects remained hardcoded after these skin packs were later updated to override the original DLC versions and never used the new data driven parameters that newer skin packs used. The code to set these skin effects are still present in every edition of LCE regardless of if the edition had these skins or not. The Frankenstein skin was originally intended to use a custom skin animation as it's defined in the game's hardcoded skin effects but none is actually applied. | There are a few skins that existed prior to the <code>ANIM</code> parameter's inclusion in Minecraft:TU7 that retroactively received special skin effects after release. The other bits of the <code>GAME_FLAGS</code> bitmask likely would have been used for a cut filter/category feature for the skin select menu found in the UI Data. Tabs for skin types are defined in the <code>SkinHDGraphics</code> data called <code>SkinSelect_MalTabSelected</code> (Male), <code>SkinSelect_FemTabSelected</code> (Female), and <code>SkinSelect_BeaTabSelected</code> (Beast) with icon sprites of Minecraft:Steve's face, Minecraft:Alex's face, and a Minecraft:Creeper face for the tabs respectively. "Male" skins have bit 3 enabled, "Female" have bit 2 enabled, "Beast" skins (animals, fantasy creatures and monsters) have both bits enabled. General character skins, and skins with no applicable gender such as the Spartan skins in the Minecraft:2nd Birthday Skin Pack and Racing Driver skins in Minecraft:Skin Pack 1, use bit 4. Nonbiological skins that don't fit into any category, such as both "Evil Robot" skins in Minecraft:Halloween Charity Skin Pack and the "Dwarven Centurion" skin in Skyrim Mash-Up Pack, use the male, female, and generic skin flags, but not the last flag. All official skins that use the flags have bit 5 enabled, with the sole exception of nonbiological skins. Notably, human Minecraft characters tend to be marked as gender neutral. Some IP animal characters such as Banjo from Minecraft:Banjo-Kazooie and Conker from Minecraft:Conker's Bad Fur Day, despite having personalities and clearly defined genders, are categorized like "Beast" skins instead of normal character ones. An example of a female skin unfair to use in competitive mini games would be <code>0x1b</code> and an example of a robot skin that is fair to use would be <code>0x0e</code>.
Packs released after Minecraft:TU53 and skins ported from PE/BE often would get a value of <code>0</code>, or no <code>GAME_FLAGS</code> parameter at all. Strangely, some packs got parameters on some platforms only, while others had none at all. | Packs released after Minecraft:TU53 and skins ported from PE/BE often would get a value of <code>0</code>, or no <code>GAME_FLAGS</code> parameter at all. Introduced in Minecraft:TU33, the <code>OFFSET</code> parameter uses a string configuration to affect vertical positions of all boxes of a given type. Every offset has 3 parameters; a string that represents the offset type to affect, a Character_(computing) that represents the axis to affect (although Y is the only valid value), and an integer value for the offset itself. It is worth nothing that the Y axis is inverted, meaning negative values make the boxes appear higher instead of lower. The original implementation of the <code>OFFSET</code> parameter was to only affect the offsets of armor pieces and held items for skins with special limbs or box sizes. For example, the "Marge Simpson" skin in Minecraft:The Simpsons Skin Pack has the Helmet offset higher to sit on top of her very tall hair. | Introduced in Minecraft:TU33, the <code>OFFSET</code> parameter uses a string configuration to affect vertical positions of all boxes of a given type. Latest revision as of 11:17, 2 September 2026
Template:LCE skins differ from Minecraft:skins found in other editions of the game with the inclusion of custom geometry and special effects for individual skins, such as a Minecraft:Zombie skin having its arms raised up. Custom skin support was added in Minecraft:TU3Template:Note via Minecraft:skin packs, and later Minecraft:mash-up packs introduced in Minecraft:TU12, that were purchased and downloaded from the "Minecraft Store" on the main menu. Unlike Template:JE, capes are not tied to account data and are instead part of the skin definition itself. The capabilities of Template:LCE skins would later be adapted for Template:PE and Template:BE.
Official skins
Template:LCE comes with free built-in skins, and also allows for skins from paid DLC Minecraft:skin packs. Skins can be found in the "Change Skin" menu, commonly called the "Skin Select" menu. Most skins for Template:LCE were made by Minecraft:4J Studios, barring a few exceptions. Some packs were exclusive to certain platforms.

Technical
A skin is a PNG image file used as the texture for player models. It is mostly found within DLC skin and Minecraft:mash-up packs, which hold special properties for controlling how skins are displayed. By default, a skins are expected to be 64x32 "wide" skins, as seen in older versions of Template:JE. However, Template:LCE features exclusive parameters for skin files for greater customization. There are two types of skins that the game will register, defskin and dlcskin for default skins and DLC skins respectively. Skins are assigned an 8 digit skin ID within their file name following the name of its type as a prefix. This ID is used by the game to easily identify a skin for various purposes, such as being stored in the settings data for the player's worn skin and selection of "Favorite Skins". Although there is no strict requirement, skins that are not 32-bit PNG files are often not displayed properly and can appear corrupt in some instances.
Default skins are assigned a skin ID using hexadecimal digits. and the skin ID or "Tennis Alex" from the Default Skin Pack is defskin0000000A. Unlike DLC skins, the texture assets for the default skins can be found in the res/mob directory and do not store the ID in its filename. These skins can also be overridden via a texture pack due to using entity textures instead of skin assets.
DLC skin IDs are compromised of decimal digits only. For instance, the skin ID for "Fidget" from the Minecraft:Summer of Arcade Skin Pack is dlcskin00000411. The features a DLC skin can use depend on parameter metadata found within the DLCFile, often using a .pck file extension, in which it is stored. However, the extension of the file format is not specifically defined nor checked by the game and can be anything. Minecraft:4J Studios created tools for artists to build DLC data from XML files. Starting with the release of the Minecraft:Story Mode Skin Pack in Minecraft:TU34, skin packs included an XMLVERSION value that determined the format of the XML data being used, and, ultimately, how a skin was displayed and which features could be used with a BOX parameter. This feature was mostly used for portability of skins that originally appeared in Template:PE/Template:BE.
In online multiplayer, if a user had an equipped skin or cape with a missing ID, the server would retrieve the skin and cape contents from the multiplayer session and display it for the user missing the skin. This system allowed players to see DLC content not installed on their systems. However, this system was later exploited by modders to create custom skins and capes that even users without a modded game or system could see them.
Capes
Similar to skins, there are two types of capes, capes with a dlccape prefix for DLC skins and, despite being entirely unutilized, capes with a defcape prefix for default skins. These types use cape IDs similar to skin IDs and use decimal digits for DLC capes and hexadecimal digits for default capes. Minecraft's TMS data stores a variety of cape files and the IDs of accounts that are assigned to wear them. Some personal capes from Template:JE, such as the cape given to Minecraft:Mojang developers and a cape for video game composer Danny Baranowsky, were defined in the TMS data and some were assigned to actual Xbox Live accounts. There were also two capes designed exclusively for Minecraft:Xbox 360 Edition for Minecraft:4J Studios and Xbox employees, respectively. Users with specially distributed capes were able to toggle cape visibility for as long as this feature was supported for, but it does appear this was removed at some point and it's unknown if it ever made it to an official release of the game.

Global cape
There's another cape defintion called Default_Cape.png that appears as early as Minecraft:Build 0054, but was later changed to Special_Cape.png in Minecraft:TU12. When a file with this name is found in any DLC pack, regardless of its assigned DLC file type, it will be read as a PNG image and displayed globally on every player. However, unlike DLC capes, it is purely client side and will not interact with the server.
It can also be set via texture packs but is unloaded with the rest of the pack's textures upon exiting a world. This leads to a dangling pointer and ultimately will cause a crash when attempting to load a new world. The cape can not be changed by another DLC pack once set.
This feature is likely how the Birthday Cape was implemented for a limited time via Xbox 360 Edition's TMS data. The cape was also available as an Minecraft:Xbox 360 avatar item.

User generated content
Minecraft:4J Studios were considering official support for user generated custom skins and capes alongside the DLC skins but had abandoned the feature at some point in development. While not functional, skins and capes with the ugcskin and ugccape prefixes are recognized by the game but nothing further is done. Each type take hexadecimal values for its skin IDs rather than decimal ones, similar to default skins. This was likely to increase the amount of maximum possible skins and capes. References to user generated skin and cape types are present as early as when DLC skins were added in Minecraft:TU3 and were never removed from the game.
Xbox 360 Title Management System
Microsoft's Title Management Storage system was an entirely data driven system that allowed Xbox 360 developers to quickly and, usually not permanently, update some game content remotely without a Title Update. This was often used for time limited cosmetics, daily multiplayer map playlists, and other game features that required being switched out or changed on demand. For Minecraft, the pack icons for Xbox Marketplace items, the IDs of several people associated with the game (Xbox Live XUIDs), and special cape and skin assets for these accounts were stored here. This data is stored remotely and not stored in the actual game files.
Deadmau5 skin effect
Minecraft's TMS data stores the skin file and ID for Minecraft:Deadmau5 in order to display his skin and enable the custom skin effects for his Xbox 360 account. Unlike the other skin specific flags for Template:LCE, this flag is not present in the ANIM bit-field, but rather a hardcoded flag in the player renderer itself. The flag for this effect, and the function checking for Deadmau5's XUID, is present on every platform in Template:LCE and can be enabled with external tools.

China filter
When playing Template:LCE on a Chinese platform, two skins are removed from the game when the skin select menu is opened. Any skin matching the ID of the "Headcrab Zombie" skin from Minecraft:Skin Pack 3, dlcskin00000217, or the "Imperial Japanese Soldier" skin from Minecraft:Skin Pack 5, dlcskin00000941, is removed for content moderation. The function to remove these skins exist and is run in every edition of Template:LCE regardless of pack availability.

Parameters
Skins, like other file types found in Template:LCE DLC files, feature parameters that extend the capabilities of the skin. Some parameters became unused or were changed in later updates to the game. Parameters are UTF-8 encoded string pairs and are parsed as various types of data depending on the parameter type.
DISPLAYNAME
The DISPLAYNAME parameter uses a string value to set a skin's display name, displayed under the skin, in the skin select menu. Any value is a valid entry as long as it is formatted as UTF-8 text. This parameter is overridden with DISPLAYNAMEID parameters. This parameter is no longer functional starting with Minecraft:PlayStation 4 Edition 1.83 in favor of DISPLAYNAMEID and LOC_KEY.
THEMENAME
The THEMENAME parameter uses a string value to set a skin's theme, displayed under the display name, in the skin select menu. Any value is a valid entry as long as it is formatted as UTF-8 text. This parameter is overriden with THEMENAMEID parameters. Themes were often used to disclose which pack a skin was from or the Template:Wikipedia that a licensed character originated from. This parameter is no longer functional starting with Minecraft:PlayStation 4 Edition 1.83 in favor of THEMENAMEID.
FREE
The FREE parameter sets a skin as free to use regardless of if the DLC pack was purchased or not. No value is actually required to set the skin as free, although all official instances set the value to simply 1. Most skin packs came with at least two free skins, as a way for players to try the skin pack.
CREDIT
The CREDIT parameter uses a string value to add a credit to the credits screen. This was often used to disclose legal information such as copyright information regarding licensed Template:Wikipedia and music production credits for Mash-Up Packs. Any value is a valid entry as long as it is formatted as UTF-8 text. This parameter is no longer functional starting with Minecraft:TU21 in favor of CREDITID.
CAPEPATH
Introduced in Minecraft:TU5, the CAPEPATH parameter uses a UTF-8 string value to set a skin's cape texture. The string must be the name of a valid DLCCapeFile within the DLC file, for instance dlccape00001034.png is a valid value, even if placed in a Skins directory. A crash will occur for guest players in multiplayer if a cape is defined for a skin but the cape file does not actually exist in the DLC file. This is not replicable normally as every official skin has a defined cape that exists.
BOX
"Faith" from Template:Wikipedia as depicted in Minecraft:Skin Pack 6. Note the box in the top right corner of the texture wrapping around the left side.
Introduced in Minecraft:TU7, the BOX parameter uses a string configuration to create an additional box for a skin. Every box has at least 9 arguments; a string that represents the ModelPart that the box belongs to, 3 Template:Wikipedia values representing X, Y, and Z coordinates, 3 float values representing width, height, and depth (although the game truncates these values to integers), and 2 float values representing U, V for Template:Wikipedia. It is worth nothing that the Y axis is inverted, meaning negative values make the box appear higher instead of lower. The UVs of boxes can also wrap around the texture like in the texture for "Faith" in Minecraft:Skin Pack 6. An example of a basic box would be HEAD -4 -8 -4 8 8 8 0 0.
In Minecraft:TU31, the box parameter was updated to include an integer argument, representing a 4-bit mask, for armor masking. Unlike other bit-masks for skins, the value is represented by a decimal value instead of a hexadecimal value. Each bit represents a piece of armor that will make the box invisible when worn. For instance a value of 3, represents head armor and chestplates, the first and second bits in the mask. Whenever a helmet, pumpkin or a chestplate is worn, that box will be hidden as long as the box has those flags set. An example box that is disabled with any armor worn would be HEAD -4 -8 -4 8 8 8 0 0 15.
In Minecraft:TU34, the box parameter was updated to include another integer argument, representing a boolean value, for mirroring a box's texture U (horizontal) axis, accepting either 0 or 1 as valid values. An example box that is invisible with all armor and with texture mirroring enabled would be HEAD -4 -8 -4 8 8 8 0 0 15 1. Overlay box typesTemplate:Note were also added for parity with Template:PE/Template:BE skins.
In Minecraft:TU58, armor masking box typesTemplate:Note were added for parity with Template:PE/Template:BE skins.
In Minecraft:TU60, the last four armor masking box typesTemplate:Note were added to complete parity with Template:PE/Template:BE skins.
XMLVERSION
Introduced in Minecraft:TU34, the XMLVERSION is not a skin parameter, but rather a DLC file parameter that sets the format that all skin boxes use for display. It's primarily used for parity and porting of skins originating from Template:PE/Template:BE and appears in all DLC with skins after its introduction. Older skin packs were updated to the new format in various updates. The parameter can be set inside of any DLC file, often being set inside of SkinData files named Skins.pck.
If the pack is set to either XMLVERSION 1 or 2, then any overlayTemplate:NoteTemplate:Note boxes will be inflated. All overlay types are inflated by by 0.25, but HEADWEAR is inflated by 0.5. Custom box parameters have their south UVs flipped on the V (vertical) axis if any XMLVERSION is set.
In Minecraft:TU69, the box parameter was updated to include a float argument for a box's inflate value, but requires XMLVERSION 3 to work. The size of the box is calculated by adding the inflate value to the box values. For instance, a value of 0.25 would make a box of 8x8x8 into 8.25x8.25x8.25. As the value is now set manually, overlay parts will no longer scale automatically when the pack is set to XMLVERSION 3. An example box that is hidden when wearing any armor, with texture mirroring enabled, and an inflation of 0.5 would be HEAD -4 -8 -4 8 8 8 0 0 15 1 0.5.
ANIM
Introduced in Minecraft:TU7, the ANIM parameter uses a hexadecimal value with a "0x" prefix that represents a bit-mask for overriding the player's animation settings found inside of SkinAdjustments. The size and effects of this mask depend on the version of the game being used. It does not accept an integer value and the "0x" prefix must be present. Initially starting out as a 4-bit value, the bit-mask would grow to be 32-bit after Minecraft:TU24. This parameter is not to be confused with the ANIM parameter found for DLCTextureFile that handles animated textures for blocks and items. All entities in Template:LCE have a SkinAdjustments bit-mask and it controls all of the display states for that entity, such as which animations are currently displayed. For DLC skins, it was most often used for disabling boxes of the base player model to make space in the texture for custom boxes. It is also capable of overriding some game settings such as "Custom Skin Animations", special limb animations, such as legs not being animated and arms being out like a zombie's. Starting with Minecraft:TU24, it can set the player model to Minecraft:Java Edition 1.8 style "wide" and "slim" models. If either of these models are used, it causes the main player boxes to have their south UVs flipped on the V (vertical) axis, as is the case in Template:JE, but does not affect custom box parameters. Some skins have custom effects but were introducted before ANIM was introduced, so these skins had hardcoded effects by skin ID until the packs were eventually updated to use ANIM in later versions. An example animation override value that sets the model type to "Slim", removes the HEADWEAR box, and disables leg animation would be 0x80014.
Hardcoded skin effects
There are a few skins that existed prior to the ANIM parameter's inclusion in Minecraft:TU7 that retroactively received special skin effects after release. Oddly, these skins' effects remained hardcoded after these skin packs were later updated to override the original DLC versions and never used the new data driven parameters that newer skin packs used. The code to set these skin effects are still present in every edition of Template:LCE regardless of if the edition had these skins or not. The Frankenstein skin was originally intended to use a custom skin animation as it's defined in the game's hardcoded skin effects but none is actually applied.

GAME_FLAGS
Introduced in Minecraft:TU25, the GAME_FLAGS parameter uses a hexadecimal value with a 0x prefix that represents a bit-mask for skin meta data used by the skin select menu. Despite being implemented this early on, it wouldn't have any actual functionality until Minecraft:TU36. Only the first bit is functional in game and it blocks skins from being selected that pose an unfair advantage in certain conditions. The other four bits of the bit-mask were unused but regularly assigned to skins for most of the game's remaining development. These flags may have been used for a cut skin filtering feature left over in the data of Minecraft:PlayStation 4 Edition.
Unfair skins
The first bit in the GAME_FLAGS bit-mask represents if a skin is allowed to be used in competitive mini game sessions that have the "Allow All Skins" option disabled. The flag was introduced in Minecraft:TU25, over a year before Battle released in Minecraft:TU36, and started appearing on skins in the very same update. The first skins to be flagged as unfair in Minecraft:TU25 were the Baby Ghast skin in the Minecraft:Battle & Beasts 2 Skin Pack, the Teselecta Antibody skin in Minecraft:Doctor Who Skins Volume I, the K9 skin in Minecraft:Doctor Who Skins Volume II, the Snow Flake skin in the Festive Mash-Up Pack, the 343 Guilty Spark and Drone skins in the Halo Mash-Up Pack, the Super Meat Boy and GLORG skins in Minecraft:Skin Pack 2, the Atlas and P-Body skins in Minecraft:Skin Pack 3, the Claptrap skin in Minecraft:Skin Pack 4, the R2-D2, Yoda, Jawa, and Wicket W. Warrick skins in the Minecraft:Star Wars Classic Skin Pack, and the Maggie Simpson skin in Minecraft:The Simpsons Skin Pack.
List of official unfair skins
Skin types
The other bits of the GAME_FLAGS bitmask likely would have been used for a cut filter/category feature for the skin select menu found in the UI Data. Tabs for skin types are defined in the SkinHDGraphics data called SkinSelect_MalTabSelected (Male), SkinSelect_FemTabSelected (Female), and SkinSelect_BeaTabSelected (Beast) with icon sprites of Minecraft:Steve's face, Minecraft:Alex's face, and a Minecraft:Creeper face for the tabs respectively. These tabs seemingly correlate with a pattern found in the GAME_FLAGS values and the type of skin that uses that value. Some IP animal characters such as Banjo from Minecraft:Banjo-Kazooie and Conker from Minecraft:Conker's Bad Fur Day, despite having personalities and clearly defined genders, are categorized like "Beast" skins instead of normal character ones. An example of a female skin unfair to use in competitive mini games would be 0x1b and an example of a robot skin that is fair to use would be 0x0e.
Packs released after Minecraft:TU53 and skins ported from Template:PE/Template:BE often would get a value of 0, or no GAME_FLAGS parameter at all. Strangely, some packs got parameters on some platforms only, while others had none at all.
OFFSET
Introduced in Minecraft:TU33, the OFFSET parameter uses a string configuration to affect vertical positions of all boxes of a given type. Every offset has 3 parameters; a string that represents the offset type to affect, a Template:Wikipedia that represents the axis to affect (although Y is the only valid value), and an integer value for the offset itself. It is worth nothing that the Y axis is inverted, meaning negative values make the boxes appear higher instead of lower. The original implementation of the OFFSET parameter was to only affect the offsets of armor pieces and held items for skins with special limbs or box sizes. For example, the "Marge Simpson" skin in Minecraft:The Simpsons Skin Pack has the Helmet offset higher to sit on top of her very tall hair.
In Minecraft:TU58, offset types were added to affect base player parts, such as HEAD and ARM0, and these values also affect children parts too, such as HEADWEAR and SLEEVE0 overlays. Some later skin packs erroneously have OFFSET parameters for overlays, likely left over from Template:PE/Template:BE conversion, but they are not valid offset types in Template:LCE and do not affect the skin. Some offset values will stack values together, such as the offset values of TOOL0 and ARM0 both applying to the player's right held item or the offset values of HELMET and HEAD both applying to the player's helmet.
An example of an offset value that lowers a player's helmet by four units would be HELMET Y 4 and an offset value that raises a player's head and helmet by two units would be HEAD Y -2. If both examples were present, the helmet would appear in its normal position while the head will appear two units higher than usual.
DISPLAYNAMEID
Introduced in Minecraft:TU21, the DISPLAYNAMEID parameter sets a skin's display name localization key to be used in a DLCLocalisationFile named either languages.loc or localisation.loc. This file is used to translate DLC string data according to the player's language setting to override a skin's displayed name in the "Change Skin" menu. This parameter overrides the DISPLAYNAME parameter. In Minecraft:TU71, the LOC_KEY parameter was added and exhibits identical behavior to DISPLAYNAMEID.
THEMENAMEID
Introduced in Minecraft:TU21, the THEMENAMEID parameter sets a skin's theme name localization key to be used in a DLCLocalisationFile named either languages.loc or localisation.loc. This file is used to translate DLC string data according to the player's language setting to override a skin's displayed theme in the "Change Skin" menu. This parameter overrides the THEMENAME parameter.
CREDITID
Introduced in Minecraft:TU21, the CREDITID parameter adds a localization key to be used in a DLCLocalisationFile named either languages.loc or localisation.loc. This file is used to translate DLC string data according to the player's language setting to add a credit to the credits screen. This parameter completely replaces the CREDIT parameter as it is no longer works after Minecraft:TU21.
LOC_KEY
Introduced in Minecraft:TU71, the LOC_KEY parameter works identically to the THEMENAMEID parameter. It was added to use the same localization keys for packs originally built for Template:BE.
Data values
BOX types
The following values are for the 1st argument for box parameters and represented each basic part of the player model. In Minecraft:TU34, new box types were introduced for Minecraft:Java Edition 1.8 style player models, introduced in Minecraft:TU24. Armor box types for easier conversion of skins that originated from Minecraft:Bedrock Edition were added in Minecraft:TU58 and Minecraft:TU60 respectively. Using an improper box type with the wrong model or version will cause a crash.

Armor can be forcefully rendered with effects found in bits 26-31, respectively.
