The deep ocean variant generates at deeper waters, with the depth usually being around 30 blocks, twice as deep as shallower oceans. The ground is mainly covered with Minecraft:gravel. Minecraft:Ocean monuments generate in deep oceans, meaning Minecraft:guardians and Minecraft:elder guardians can spawn there. Minecraft:Dolphins, Minecraft:cod, Minecraft:salmonbedrock and Minecraft:squid spawn in these oceans as well. Underwater Minecraft:caves and Minecraft:ravines often generate here, forming underwater trenches. Tall seagrass also generates more frequently in deep oceans compared to shallower oceans.

When in any ocean biome, unique ocean Minecraft:ambience play randomly. Normal overworld tracks also play, alongside "Axolotl", "Dragon Fish" and "Shuniji", as the requirements for those are merely to be underwater rather than biome-determined.

Template:Infobox biome

A deep ocean is a variant of the regular Minecraft:ocean with the seafloor twice as deep.

Generation

Deep oceans generate adjacent to oceans when Minecraft:continentalness drops even lower. This means that they cannot border land biomes, except Minecraft:mushroom fields. The seafloor is twice as deep as in regular oceans, usually around Y=30, and islands are much rarer, yet not impossible.

Deep oceans generate at moderate temperatures, bordering regular oceans when continentalness increases. Deep oceans border Minecraft:deep lukewarm oceans when temperature increases, and Minecraft:deep cold oceans when temperature decreases.

Although cave biomes are uncommon, Minecraft:lush caves may generate if humidity is high. Minecraft:Sulfur caves can rarely generate if weirdness is low.

Description

Like in any deep ocean, Minecraft:ocean monuments generate in deep oceans, meaning Minecraft:guardians and Minecraft:elder guardians can spawn there. Tall seagrass also generates more frequently in deep oceans compared to shallower oceans. In any other aspect, deep oceans are the same as regular oceans, with a Minecraft:gravel seabed and common Minecraft:fish spawning.

Trivia

  • Before Minecraft:1.18, the Minecraft:plains and Minecraft:forest biomes generated in patches within regular deep ocean biomes, similar to how "hills" biomes generated within their respective base biomes, creating islands.
    • Although normal deep ocean biome could generate standalone, normal deep ocean biomes also generated in patches within normal ocean biomes.
