Template:For Template:Infobox block A log or stem is a naturally occurring Minecraft:block found in Minecraft:trees or Minecraft:huge fungi, primarily used as a building block and to create Minecraft:planks, a versatile Minecraft:crafting ingredient. There are nine types of logs: Minecraft:oak, Minecraft:spruce, Minecraft:birch, jungle, Minecraft:acacia, Minecraft:dark oak, Minecraft:mangrove, Minecraft:cherry blossom, and Minecraft:pale oak; and two types of stems: crimson, and warped.
Obtaining
Breaking
Logs and stems can be broken by hand, but using an Minecraft:axe is faster. Logs and stems drop themselves when broken with any tool. Template:Breaking row
Natural generation
All types of logs generate naturally as part of Minecraft:trees, although Minecraft:fallen trees can only contain oak, spruce, birch, or jungle. Additionally, one jungle log generates for each Minecraft:jungle bush. Stems generate naturally as part of Minecraft:huge fungi.

Generated loot
Trading
Minecraft:Wandering traders can sell 8 logs for one Minecraft:emerald. Template:Trade sources
Mob loot
Template:IN, Minecraft:wandering traders have a chance of 8.5% (increased by 1% per level of Minecraft:Looting) to drop 8 available logs when killed while showing the item as trade offer, if the player holds an Minecraft:emerald.
Post-generation
Logs and stems
Trees can be grown using Minecraft:saplings or Minecraft:azalea, and huge fungi can be grown using small Minecraft:Nether fungi.

Further crafting
The following table presents the amount of logs or stems needed to produce an even multiple of a given item with no waste left over, and the quantity produced:
| Product | Number of logs or stems needed so that there are no redundant planks/sticks/... after crafting | Product amount after crafting | Ratio between the product amount and the number of logs or stems needed |

Smelting ingredient
Template:Smelting Stems cannot be smelted into charcoal.
Fuel
Logs, but not stems, can be used as a Minecraft:fuel in Minecraft:furnaces, smelting 1.5 items per block.
Axes
Template:Control an Minecraft:axe on a log or stem turns it into a Minecraft:stripped log or a Minecraft:stripped stem, which act the same as regular logs or stems.
Cocoa beans
Minecraft:Cocoa beans can be placed on the side of jungle logs to grow a new cocoa pod.
Note blocks
Logs and stems can be placed under Minecraft:note blocks to produce "bass" sounds.
Sulfur cube
Template:In development Minecraft:Sulfur cubes have the ability to absorb logs, either through picking them up or being interacted whilst holding them. This provides the rubber ball/bouncy effect to the mob when hitting it.
