This is a strategy guide page to help players defeat Dragonwilds:Velgar. Depending on the player's world difficulty, please refer to the relevant strategy section.
Inventory Preparation
Velgar is a Dragonwilds:Power level 4 boss monster of Dragonwilds:Ghornfell, he will be difficult to defeat without wearing power Level 4 or higher gear and being prepared. It is also suggested that you gather enough Sanguine Urns, so you have enough Dragonwilds:Health to survive. Velgar is immune to Dragonwilds:Poison, so avoid attempting to use Dragonwilds:Weapon Poison.
Foods/Drinks
For you're fight against Velgar, you'll want the following items in your key bind hotbar slot:
- Dragonwilds:Lesser Antipoison Potion to grant Dragonwilds:Fungal Fortitude perk.
- Dragonwilds:Berry Drizzle Pan-Seared to heal you 160 health.
- Dragonwilds:Mushroom Kebab to stack the Fungal Fortidude perk.
- Any Dragonwilds:Infusions that'll buff your combat style.
- Infusions do not stack, so pick one reduces stamina on your combat style action, or dodging.
Recommended additions
If fighting in hard difficulty, or wanting to speed up the fight in normal difficulty, it is advised to have these items:
- Dragonwilds:Whetstone enhances any melee weapon held by two points for ten minutes.
- In addition, Dragonwilds:Lesser Attack Potion can be added for the Dragonwilds:Focused Strikes perk for ten minutes.
- Dragonwilds:Magical Focus enhances staff and wand damage output from spell attacks by 15% for ten minutes
- In addition, Dragonwilds:Lesser Magic Potion can be added to increase the chance of landing critical hits with combat spells by 25% for ten minutes.
While Range has yet to have any items to buff it, it is suggested to have Iron Barbed Arrows to cause the Dragonwilds:Bleed effect, Dragonwilds:Enchanted Iron Bolts for a 15% chance of one of the bolts being enchanted with 10% water magic damage. or Dragonwilds:Enchanted Blurite Bolts for a 15% chance of one of the bolts being enchanted with 10% earth magic damage.
Runes and Spells
Although Velgar has no resistance or weakness, he is immune to Dragonwilds:Burning effect, so it is recommended to use Water, Air and EarthTemplate:Sic to do some better damage.
You can also use spells to enhance your abilities against Velgar.
- Dragonwilds:Surge would allow you to dodge attacks at a greater distance three times, costing no stamina.
- Dragonwilds:Tempest Shield for melee and crossbow users, as it blocks more variety of attacks, even unblockable ones.
- Dragonwilds:Enchant Weapon: Air to increase the attack speed and damage of your equipped melee weapon if using melee.
- Dragonwilds:Spectral Arrows increases their damage done, and is worth maintaining over the course of the fight if using Dragonwilds:Ranged.
Dragonwilds:Internal Alchemy is optional to have, as it is able to refresh active food and drinks buffs, but only if you're willing to spend about 4-5 seconds of casting time, which can leave you open for attacks.
Preset
The present below is a suggested look on how you can have what you can have on your key bind and inventory. Know that you do not need to copy this set up, you're free to use what you are comfortable with. The weapons you see are also based on their base damage, but you are free to use a different weapon if you want.
Basic Preset
This preset are for players who are fighting Velgar in normal difficulty, wanting a casual encounter and take the fight slow.
The + signs on the items indicates that you might need more than the number you see below. <tabber> Basic Melee= Template:Inventory |-| Basic Ranged= Template:Inventory |-| Basic Magic= Template:Inventory </tabber>
Advance Preset
This preset are for players who are fighting Velgar in hard difficulty, or in normal difficulty, but want to tank most of his attacks while doing extra damage.

Strategy
As Velgar is the first true boss to be fought, he can be defeated by one or more players in either Normal or Hard mode.
His main attacks are Claw Slam, Claw Strike, Bite, Head Swing, and Dragon Breath (Poison). He will only attempt to bite or use his claw strike attacks against you if you are within melee range (close range), but can slam the ground to send earthen spikes towards you or use his dragon breath attack to generate a poisonous area in a cone shape from his direction. Each time his health is reduced by roughly 25%, until reaching the final 25%, Velgar will fly up into the sky and rain down poison barrages that will land where there are red-orange circles on the ground. Avoid being within the circles to getting severely damaged as they will sometimes overlap and damage you multiple times.
You will also need to make sure that you time your attacks, dodges, and evasions properly as panicking will cause you to potentially be hit by Velgar's attacks. Another thing to be cautious about is that if you run low on the Dragonwilds:Antipoison potion effect or the Dragonwilds:Fungal Fortitude food perk as Velgar's poison-based attacks will rapidly poison you and make you lose roughly 4 health per second until cured.
Pedestal strategy
Velgar can be easily taken down by just standing on the horn's holder; by standing on it you will evade close combat and ground spikes that do a lot of damage, but you will absorb poison damage, so having the lesser antipoison and food helps. The only time you will need to jump off is to dodge the poison rain, if you're willing to dodge them.
The pedestal will vanish the moment the battle starts, so in order to do this strategy, players will first require to have a lodestone in front of the boss entrance, start the encounter as normal then teleport out of the boss instance by pausing the game and pressing the "X" key. There, they can use the lodestone once again to teleport to the boss entrance, enter it and the fight will begin with the pedestal back. If done this right, the pedestal should reappear and stay.
