Template:Infobox biome Windswept hills or extreme hills are cold mountainous biomes with shattered terrain covered by grass blocks and stone.

Generation

Windswept hills typically generate inland, where terrain is elevated and erosion is moderately high, in cold to temperate climates with low to moderate humidity. The terrain may be flat, rugged, jagged, or shattered with floating islands.

Windswept hills may border other windswept biome variants, such as the Minecraft:windswept forest. Minecraft:Forests, Minecraft:plains, Minecraft:swamps, Minecraft:flower forests, and Minecraft:sunflower plains are common neighboring biomes. In colder regions, Minecraft:snowy plains and Minecraft:snowy taigas are more likely to generate nearby.

Minecraft:Dripstone caves may generate beneath windswept hills located far inland. Minecraft:Sulfur caves may generate in areas with low weirdness, while Minecraft:ice caves may generate in particularly cold regions.Template:Upcoming

Description

In windswept hills, the Minecraft:grass and Minecraft:leaves are an aqua color. These are the only biomes, besides Minecraft:mountain biomes, where Minecraft:emerald ore is found. Like mountains, Minecraft:infested blocks with Minecraft:silverfish can be generated underground below the sea level.

The ground consists of many exposed Minecraft:stone blocks and Minecraft:ores, with some patches of Minecraft:grass blocks in between. Above Y=120±8, rainfall changes to Minecraft:snowfall, and the hills becomes snow-capped, along with Minecraft:water freezing into Minecraft:ice.

Template:IN, Minecraft:oak and Minecraft:spruce trees generate occasionally, while these are exclusive to the windswept forest Template:In. Minecraft:Bushes generate on the sparse grasslands, and Minecraft:llamas can spawn here together with cold Minecraft:animal variants.

With Minecraft:Vibrant Visuals, windswept hills use default environmental settings with a coolish color grading, making the biome appear colder blue. They use cold sunlight, which appears slightly brighter at dusk and dawn.
