Template:For Template:Infobox item A mace is a melee Minecraft:weapon that can do smash attacks which deal more damage the farther the user falls before hitting an entity. Landing a successful smash attack causes the user to land without taking any fall damage accumulated prior to attacking. It is crafted with a heavy core which only drops from ominous vaults at a chance of 7.5%, and a breeze rod which is obtained from breezes.

Attacking
Template:Control with a mace costs 1 durability, regardless of whether the attack is a smash attack (see below). Template:IN, a Minecraft:boat or Minecraft:minecart hit by a mace is instantly destroyed without decreasing the mace's durability.
Normal attack
A mace can be Template:Control while standing on the ground to perform a normal attack, dealing Template:Hp damage when the attack cooldown is fully charged. Template:IN, it has the slowest attack speed in the game, at 0.6. If used normally, it deals 3.6 damage per second (DPS) or 5.4 if using critical hits, while a wooden sword deals 6.4 DPS. In Template:JE, a Breach IV mace has the third-highest DPS and the highest damage per hit of all weapons versus entities wearing diamond or netherite armor. In Template:BE, Breach IV maces have both the highest damage per hit and the highest DPS against entities wearing diamond or netherite armor, due to having no attack cooldown.
Smash attack
Falling
A mace does a smash attack when it is Template:Control after the player has fallen 1.5 blocks or more, regardless of the mace's current attack cooldown progress.<ref>Template:Cite bug</ref> The player must not be grounded or in elytra flight, and the fall height used in calculation is simply the starting height (Y coordinate) minus the ending height (Y coordinate). Successfully performing a smash attack without touching the ground resets the player's fall height to the height where the smash attack was performed, nullifying any fall damage. The player begins accumulating fall damage once again if they continue to fall.
Activation
When a smash attack is performed, extra damage is dealt to the attacked entity based on the distance fallen prior to the attack. All entities within 2.5 blocks of the attack are knocked back, similar to the effect of a wind charge.Template:Info needed The knockback from smash attacks does not affect the attacker, though the Wind Burst enchantment can be used to launch them in a similar way. A smash attack can be performed on any entity, which includes mobs, players, and non-mob entities like armor stands. Smash attacks cannot be performed if the player has the Slow Falling effect.
Descending with an Minecraft:elytra counts as blocks fallen for smash attacks.<ref>Template:Cite bug</ref> In Template:JE, the elytra must be unequipped before attacking for the smash attack to activate, as being in elytra flight does not activate a smash attack.<ref name="mace-elytra">Template:Cite bug</ref> In Template:BE, unequipping the elytra before attacking is not necessary, as smash attacks activate even while the user is in elytra flight.<ref>Template:Cite bug</ref>
Damage
A successful smash attack causes a mace to deal Template:Hp extra damage for each of the first 3 blocks fallen, Template:Hp extra damage for each of the next 5 blocks fallen, and Template:Hp extra damage for each block fallen after that. The Density enchantment can be used to increase smash attack damage by Template:Hp per level for each block fallen. Smash attacks are usually critical hits, where both the mace's base damage and its smash attack damage are increased by 50%. The damage a mace smash attack can accumulate from falling is unlimited.<ref>Template:Bug</ref>
Damage comparisons
The amount of fallen blocks needed to defeat a player wearing full Protection IV netherite armor from full health are the following:
- Unenchanted mace: A critical hit after falling 30 blocks.
- Breach IV mace: A critical hit after falling 19 blocks.
- Density V mace: A critical hit after falling 10 blocks.
- Breach IV mace with Strength II: A critical hit after falling 13 blocks.
- Density V mace with Strength II: A critical hit after falling 9 blocks.
The amount of fallen blocks needed to defeat a Minecraft:warden from full health are the following:
- Unenchanted mace: A critical hit after falling 321 blocks.
- Density V mace: A critical hit after falling 95 blocks.
- Density V mace with Strength II: A critical hit after falling 93 blocks.

Enchantment behavior
Maces have exclusive access to the Density, Breach, and Wind Burst enchantments.
Density
Template:Main Maces enchanted with Density deal more damage when executing a smash attack. The damage is increased by Template:Hp for each block fallen per level of enchantment, with a maximum level of 5. Normal attacks do not have their damage increased.
Breach
Template:Main Maces enchanted with Breach partially ignore a target's armor points and armor toughness when attacking. The reduction is 15% per level of enchantment, with a maximum level of 4. By use of Breach IV, a mace's normal attack has the highest damage-per-hit of any melee weapon against targets wearing diamond or netherite armor.
Wind Burst
Maces enchanted with Wind Burst cause a powerful upwards knockback effect upon executing a successful smash attack. The height gain is 8 blocks per level, with a maximum level of 3. Wind Burst can be used to repeatedly chain smash attacks together. Unlike wind charges, Wind Burst does not negate fall damage.

Trivia
- The mace's design pitch was made by developer Ulraf.<ref> https://youtu.be/2cxUNoWNy50?t=4173</ref>
- One of the original ideas for what would be the main reward of the trial chambers was a long-ranged weapon, before the mace was conceptualized and chosen over it by the developers.<ref> https://youtu.be/2cxUNoWNy50?t=4208</ref>
- The earliest implementation of the mace in Template:El used the attachable system, a system used to play custom animations. However the mace's attachable system files did not contain any custom animations, and it was later rewritten to use the standard item system.
