Minecraft:Natalie

Natalie is an avid Template:MC player and reformed griefer, serving as the main character of the short story Griefer.

Appearance

Natalie has been seen in three different iterations: Template:MC, stylized Minecraft, and real life. Her avatar can be seen on the cover of the story, depicted as having pale skin, cyan hair, and a tattered, purplish blue dress. For scenes within the comic itself, she is depicted in a stylized, humanoid form with light blue, slightly spiky bangs, black eyes, and an hourglass figure. This form appears identical in height to all other players in the story. Her outfit is marketedly different, consisting of a lime colored dress or tunic, with bluish gray pauldrons and a white belt with a black buckle. Her leggings are the same color as her armor, while her boots have a lime shaft and gray toe box.

Her real self is very similar to her digital forms, with the same skin tone and hair. However, her eyes are shown to be blue, and she appears slightly taller with a thinner figure. Her clothes consist of a red flannel jacket, black pants, pink sonks, and a white t-shirt that appears slightly small, with her belly button briefly visible.

Personality

At the beginning of the story, Natalie is shown carefree and cocky. She is defined by her carelessness, enjoying the chaos of bullying people online and not thinking of the consequences, only seeing Minecraft as her personal enjoyment. However, she does not appear aggressive or spiteful, never considering the harm she could bring to others. After a violent encounter in the real world, she matures and decides to atone for her mistakes.

While playing, she is shown to have a sweet tooth, drinking out of two separate soda brands. One is named "da Quoix," and another has no name, only a white can. On the cover she is also shown enjoying potato chips, and "Skooties," a parody of Template:Wikipedia.

Abilities

Being a griefer, Natalie is experienced with causing wanton destruction within video games. From her introduction, she is somehow able to cause Minecraft:lava to pour from the Minecraft:sky, completely destroying an entire house. Upon encountering a player in person, she resorts to using a curved sword with a greenish gold hilt. Through either Minecraft:Fire Aspect or enhanced speeds, she is able to kill her prey in a single hit. She is also shown to possess a match item to ignite TNT, as opposed to a conventional item such as Minecraft:flint and steel. On the cover of the story, her UI is depicted with six Minecraft:health points, as opposed to the standard ten, making her considerably weaker than the average player. She also appears to lack any Minecraft:hunger.

Within the real world, she is the only person able to perceive the Minecraft:burnt man's presence. It's unclear if this is a supernatural ability, or merely the being appearing to her alone.

Biography

For an unknown amount of time, Natalie had been playing Template:MC, and grew accustomed to tormenting other players. On one occasion, she lit a house on fire, gloating as the owner screamed a few feet away.

Around midnight, Natalie stayed up to troll a Minecraft:server. Her first known victim of the night was a man lounging at his house, burning it down by unexplained lava rain. From there, she snuck up behind another player, killing her and then rigging her house to explode. Before she could activate the TNT, she was interrupted by a mysterious figure, warning against her antics. Not thinking much of it, she lights the fuse and celebrates, but is shocked to discover a blaze erupting next to her house.

She quickly evacuates both herself and her family, and not too long after the firefighters arrive to handle the situation. While watching the fire, she's horrified by the prospect of someone getting hurt, or worse. As she watches, she quickly sees someone inside, and recognizes them as the man she encountered in the game, but no one else sees it. Seeing the error of her ways, she returned to the third player she attacked to apologized, and the two become friends. However, they quickly sense something behind them, and neither ever finds out what.

Relationships

Family

Natalie is shown to have a positive relationship with her parents, whom she lives under. Prior to the story they are said to have disapproved of her staying late. When the fire breaks out, Natalie's first act is to help them get out of the house just in case it spreads. After it becomes clear they're safe, they both thank her, calling her a hero, seemingly unaware of her destructive habits online.

Minecraft

Within the server she inhabits, Natalie has a reputation as a griefer, causing destruction and ridicule solely for her own amusement. This is never shown to eat at her, and in fact she encourages it, calling it a skill. However, this does not come without consequence, and after being threatened Natalie chooses to apologize. In the process, she regains contact with one of her prior targets, and the two bond when she offers advice for hiding from other griefers.
