Dragonwilds:Black Knight Titan/Strategies
More actions
This page contains strategies for defeating the Dragonwilds:Black Knight Titan. Depending on your world's difficulty setting (Normal or Hard), you'll need to refer to its relevant section.
Recommended setup
As the Black Knight Titan is a Dragonwilds:Power level 6 entity, he will be difficult to defeat without wearing Dragonwilds:Power Level 6 gear and being prepared. Also be sure to unlock the Nodestone to the Basstion to/from The Nexus.
Inventory Setup:
Players should have the following items in their inventory:
Food
Dragonwilds:Food with valuable Dragonwilds:Perks:
- The strongest perk is Dragonwilds:Soul Food, which will slowly restore Dragonwilds:Lifeward over time, but particularly immediately after taking damage. The best meal that provides this is the Dragonwilds:Glazed Pumpkin Sandwich, which will provide it for 600 seconds in addition to Dragonwilds:Knowledgable Nourishment and Dragonwilds:Foreman's Feast.
- Dragonwilds:Warding Fish is also a strong mention from a number of meals involving fish - It grants 50% additional Dragonwilds:Lifeward when using Dragonwilds:wardstones. Note that Dragonwilds:Burning will deal damage to Dragonwilds:Lifeward first, and many of the Black Knight Titan's attacks in the second phase will cause Dragonwilds:Burning, so focusing on Dragonwilds:Lifeward and Large Wardstones over Healing Potions can be valuable.
Drink
Dragonwilds:Infusions with relevant Dragonwilds:Perks:
- Ferocious Infusions for Melee fighters
- Relentless Infusions for Ranged fighters
- Arcane Infusions for Magic fighters
- Other infusions like Dragonwilds:Evasive Infusion, Dragonwilds:Fleet-Footed Infusion, Dragonwilds:Pumpkin Spice Infusion, or Dragonwilds:Maple Infusion would also be beneficial.
Other Consumables and Ammunition
Dragonwilds:Potions, Dragonwilds:Wardstones, Whetstones, and Magical Foci:
- Dragonwilds:Antifire Potion can be immensely helpful while learning the fight, as many attacks in Phase 2 will apply Dragonwilds:Burning and the potion will both clear any active effects as well as mitigate how quickly it builds for 300 seconds. Some attacks will place fire on the ground that even when blocked with Dragonwilds:Tempest Shield will still apply Dragonwilds:Burning.
- Dragonwilds:Lesser Magic Potion if using Dragonwilds:Magic and Dragonwilds:Lesser Attack Potion if using Dragonwilds:Attack, but note that only one potion effect can be active at once, so you must choose between these and the Dragonwilds:Antifire Potion.
- Large Wardstones even if using Dragonwilds:Soul Food and especially if using Dragonwilds:Warding Fish.
- Healing Potions as well, although they are less important than maintaining Dragonwilds:Lifeward.
- Whetstones if using Dragonwilds:Attack, Magical Foci if using Dragonwilds:Magic, and Enchanted, barbed, or poisoned ammunition if using Dragonwilds:Ranged.
Runes
Dragonwilds:Runes to cast the following spells:
- Dragonwilds:Surge is incredibly valuable for every combat style, as it will not only increase the distance and remove the stamina cost for three dodges, but the first dodge with its upgraded version will leave behind an Dragonwilds:Afterimage, which the Black Knight Titan will frequently attack instead of you. Be warned that it does not last for very long, and sometimes may be ignored.
- Dragonwilds:Tempest Shield may only work for melee and crossbows, but it is still incredibly valuable, as it will enable blocking many otherwise unblockable attacks, including some that will then apply Dragonwilds:Burning, dealing further damage. Unfortunately, even with a high Dragonwilds:Attack level, it will expire before it comes off cooldown, therefore will not always be available.
- Dragonwilds:Enchant Weapon: Air both increases the damage and attack speed of your equipped melee weapon if using Dragonwilds:Attack, making it exceptional against the Black Knight Titan, especially because he is resistant to the Fire and Burning from Dragonwilds:Enchant Weapon: Fire.
- Although Dragonwilds:Spectral Arrows primary purpose is to enable arrows to pierce, it also increases their damage done, and is worth maintaining over the course of the fight if using Dragonwilds:Ranged.
- Dragonwilds:Snare's upgraded Dragonwilds:Venomous Trapper will poison but not hold the Black Knight Titan in place, so the time and runes it takes to cast is not worth using compared to any other source of damage.
- Lastly, don't forget to use Dragonwilds:Internal Alchemy to maintain your Dragonwilds:Infusion and Dragonwilds:Food Dragonwilds:Perks if they are going to fall off during the fight, and use Dragonwilds:Magical Mending to keep your gear ship-shape in the event of your death or while farming (The Black Knight Titan does not currently have any rare drops, but is a valuable source of respawnable combat XP training for those so inclined).

Strategies
Normal Mode
After climbing the steps to Dragonwilds:The Bastion, and walking through the final hall, you will stand face to face with Lord Rasmodel, reborn as the Black Knight Titan, separated only by a barrier. Prepare yourself.
Preparation
Go through the following checklist:
- Ensure you are well Rested, otherwise you will need to return to base, as you are unable to cast Dragonwilds:Summon Shelter in Dragonwilds:The Bastion.
- Ensure that your Dragonwilds:Armour and Dragonwilds:Weapons are repaired and use Dragonwilds:Magical Mending if not.
- Ensure that you have the Dragonwilds:Runes, Dragonwilds:Arrows, Dragonwilds:Wardstones, and Dragonwilds:Potions that you will need.
- Eat and drink your chosen Dragonwilds:Food and Dragonwilds:Infusion, or use Dragonwilds:Internal Alchemy to keep any active Dragonwilds:Perks rolling, but be sure to top up your Dragonwilds:Sustenance and Dragonwilds:Hydration as well to ensure you have the maximum Dragonwilds:Health and Dragonwilds:Stamina regeneration.
- Apply a Dragonwilds:Whetstone or a Dragonwilds:Magical Focus, and drink a Dragonwilds:Lesser Attack Potion, Dragonwilds:Lesser Magic Potion, or an Dragonwilds:Antifire Potion.
- Cast the relevant Dragonwilds:Enchant Weapon: Air, Dragonwilds:Spectral Arrows, Dragonwilds:Surge, and/or Dragonwilds:Tempest Shield in that order.
- Take a deep breath.
And then enter.
Phase 1
The Black Knight Titan will then rise from his knees in the center of the room and wield Dragonwilds:Titan's Wrath, his massive greatsword. He will then begin moving toward the player(s) and begin his attack, which will consist of a number of different melee attacks, as well as three abilities, one of which will start ready and will be used most frequently—Leap:
Leap
- The Black Knight Titan will leap across the room towards a distant target, causing an unblockable AoE slam around the target. This cannot be blocked or parried with a normal shield, but it can be blocked with Tempest Shield. It can also be dodged. This can also be used at close range, and has a short cooldown.
Once the Black Knight Titan has used Leap, he will use one of many different melee attacks, or attempt to move back into melee range. These consist of the following:
Melee
- One fast or slow right-to-left or left-to-right swing. Can be dodged, blocked, or parried. The faster swings can catch you off-guard.
- Two swings, same deal.
- One overhead swing, which cannot be blocked without Tempest Shield, but can be dodged.
- Two overhead swings, the same as above.
- Three swings, usually right, left, then overhead. The first two can be blocked and parried, but the third cannot without Tempest Shield. However, it can be easily sidestepped, giving a moment to recover stamina.
- A stomp, approximately the same size AoE as Leap, and also unblockable, but easily backed out of.
After executing one or two melee attacks, the Black Knight Titan will then quickly gain access to two new abilities, both of which he will try to use as soon as possible:
Earthquake
- The Black Knight Titan will first attempt to get in-range, which is a bit further than his normal melee range. He will then hold his weapon by the hilt with both hands, the blade facing down. He will stand straight, with both feet planted in the ground. Then, he will slam his sword into the ground, instantly causing a small AoE around the impact of the same size as Leap, but also cause a larger area to crack and then explode shortly after. Both the impact and the explosion are unblockable without Tempest Shield but can be dodged. Note that being hit by the first impact will stagger you, causing you to then get hit by the following quake. If recognized early enough, and if far enough away when started, this attack can be backstepped out of, particularly valuable for crossbows and shortbows, but can also be walked out of otherwise. If it would get you out of the AoE, then sprinting will also cost less stamina/Surge charges than dodging.
The other ability starts similarly to Earthquake, but has an important tell, and requires a different strategy to avoid damage:
Stone Edge
- This ability is much longer range, and can be executed across the arena. The Black Knight Titan will again hold his weapon by the hilt with both hands, blade facing down. However, he will bend his right knee, and after slamming the sword into the ground, twist it like a key in a lock. The slam causes an unblockable AoE of Leap size, but the twist will send a rocky shockwave towards its target, bending as it does so. Although this can be blocked with Tempest Shield, it will be better practice to dodge this, specifically to the side, and the reason why will become clear later.
Throughout the remainder of Phase 1, the Black Knight Titan will continue using Leap, Earthquake, and Stone Edge, as well as any melee attack when in range and the abilities are on cooldown.
Phase 2
Phase 2 begins when the Black Knight Titan reaches around 60% health, when he will stop and sharpen his sword, enchanting it with fire, and roar with intimidation. All of his melee attacks now apply Burning, and his abilities change too:
Fiery Leap
- It now applies Burning, however it can still be blocked with Tempest Shield or dodged.
Eruption
- This ability has the same tell as Earthquake (grabbing the sword by the hilt with both hands and standing up straight on both feet), but now after the initial AoE slam, four rings of fire will appear on the floor, expanding outward from the point of impact. If cast in the center of the room, the outer ring will reach the entire arena. The rings are unblockable but can be blocked with Tempest Shield. They can also be dodged, however a valuable strategy (especially as a mage) is to sprint in a circle around the Black Knight Titan as the rings approach, and to turn in towards him at just the right time in order to avoid the rings while preserving Surge charges. With perfect timing, it's also possible to walk toward the Titan at just the right position and not be hit, but blocking with Tempest Shield, dodging, or sprinting at the right angle is more reliable.
Lava Edge
- This ability has the same tell as Stone Edge (grabbing the sword by the hilt with both hands but bending his right knee), but now the shockwave leaves behind a lava that lasts a short time but enough to fully apply Burning without an Antifire Potion. However, even if blocking the shockwave with Tempest Shield, the lava will still apply Burning, which is why dodging to the side is recommended.
He also gains a fourth ability:
Firestorm
- The Black Knight Titan reaches up with his left hand and summons a Firestorm above him, and the ground below ignites, applying Burning to anyone in melee range for the duration. What looks like a lit black hole above him sends out multiple fiery darts four times across the arena. Most of these darts go in random directions, but often one will track the player(s). These darts cannot be blocked without Tempest Shield. They are easier to dodge when further from the Black Knight Titan, so moving away during Firestorm is recommended. Mages should sprint or walk to conserve stamina instead of dodging when possible, but Melee and Ranged (at least with a crossbow and Tempest Shield), can squeeze in two shots immediately after the first and third set of darts, blocking inbetween.
Maintain Surge and Tempest Shield, damage when you can, avoid when you can't, heal and restore when needed, and with enough determination you will defeat the Black Knight Titan! He will award the Broken Titan's Wrath quest item which will allow you to craft his sword and (with later updates), open the gates to the Umbral Sands—Congratulations!
If you wish to fight the Black Knight Titan again, then remain in his arena for exactly 55 seconds and the Titan Seal in the center of the room will appear, allowing you to resummon and challenge Lord Rasmodel again and again, until your combat stats ding 99.
