The swamp or swampland is a wetland Minecraft:biome where Minecraft:slimes, Minecraft:frogs, and Minecraft:bogged can spawn, and it is the only biome where Minecraft:swamp huts can generate. It is vegetated by unique Minecraft:swamp oaks covered in Minecraft:vines, Minecraft:firefly bushes, Minecraft:lily pads, and more.

Generation

Swamp biomes typically generate in relatively flat terrain near sea level, in regions with very high erosion and cool to moderate temperatures. Minecraft:River biomes cannot flow through swamps, but may merge with swamp waters where a river ends at the swamp boundary.

They commonly border Minecraft:plains, Minecraft:taigas, Minecraft:forests, Minecraft:birch forests, and Minecraft:dark forests, sometimes entirely enclosed by swamps. Minecraft:Windswept hills and their variants commonly generate next to swamps, often forming mountain ranges around them.

Swamps do not directly border Minecraft:oceans, though their bodies of water may connect when a river or submerged Minecraft:beach biome separates the swamp from ocean. In warmer climates, swamps transition into Minecraft:mangrove swamps.

Minecraft:Dripstone caves sometimes generate beneath swamps, while Minecraft:lush caves may generate instead if humidity is high. Minecraft:Sulfur caves might generate if weirdness is low. Minecraft:Ice caves rarely generate, doing so near cooler regions closer to the coast.Template:Upcoming

Description

Swamps have sparse Minecraft:oak trees which can grow on land or in shallow water and generate with Minecraft:vines growing on them. Minecraft:Mushrooms are more common here than in most Overworld biomes, mostly generating in dark areas or under trees. Template:IN, Minecraft:huge mushrooms can generate as well. Minecraft:Sugar cane is found more commonly growing on shores, and Minecraft:seagrass litters the bottom of flooded areas. Minecraft:Firefly bushes and Minecraft:blue orchids grow among the grass, the latter of which are found exclusively in swamps. Minecraft:Lily pads are scattered across the surface of the water and Minecraft:dead bushes dot the surface of the land.

Swamp biomes, alongside Minecraft:mangrove swamps and Minecraft:deserts, can generate underground Minecraft:fossils. A swamp rarely generates Minecraft:swamp huts, housing a Minecraft:witch and a black Minecraft:cat. Only witches can spawn in and around the hut. Minecraft:Villages sometimes generate next to a swamp, where they spawn unique swamp Minecraft:villagers. Template:Only Otherwise, the only way for these villagers to spawn is either by being bred in a swamp, or curing a Minecraft:zombie villager that spawned in a swamp.

Minecraft:Abandoned camps sometimes generate in swamps.

Swamps have elevations low enough to go below sea level throughout much of the area. A large portion of swamps is flooded, where patches of Minecraft:clay are found on the lakebed, although deeper water only has a Minecraft:gravel floor. The shores of swamps may have marsh-like terrain, where the shores are very irregular, often without smooth transition, and with some small puddles generated. Minecraft:Sand or gravel Minecraft:disks do not generate.

The variation of grass colors in a swamp

Minecraft:Water in swamps takes on a gray-green color. Underwater Minecraft:fog is thick here so that visibility is lower than in other biomes underwater. Additionally, unlike other Minecraft:Overworld biomes, swamps have varying tints for Minecraft:grass blocks, Minecraft:short grass, Minecraft:leaves, and other plants, following a noise algorithm.

With Minecraft:Vibrant Visuals, swamps have a unique brown-green sky color, and stronger volumetric fog effects, fading the Minecraft:sun and sunlight.

Mobs

Minecraft:Slimes may spawn in swamps during the night, exclusively between Y=50 and Y=70, making swamps and mangrove swamps the only places where slimes can be found above ground. Their spawn rate is affected by the Minecraft:moon phase, spawning most often during full moon and not spawning at all during new moon. Minecraft:Bogged add an additional threat to the night, thunderstorms, or caves,Template:Only as their poison arrows can increase the danger of hostile mobs.

The following mobs naturally spawn here:
